Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences (KPSAHS) Medical Assisting Program

The Medical Assisting program is a 12-month, four-quarter program. Tentatively, classes will be held in a hybrid format, meaning lecture classes will be online and lab classes will be on ground at our KPSAHS location in Richmond. Classes will be held three days a week, with two days as lecture classes (remote based) and one day of on ground lab class. Medical Assisting students do their clinical training at Kaiser Permanente facilities. The exact location will be determined before clinical begins.

Most employers prefer to have medical assistants who have passed a medical assistant certification test, showing that they have enough training and education to be competent and safe at their jobs. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA): $155. The cost of the CCMA exam is $155, and it is available for three attempts per year. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA): $125. To be eligible to take the CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) exam, you must have graduated from an accredited medical assisting program. Taking the CMA exam requires that you have graduated from an accredited medical assisting program. The cost of the test is $125 and you are allowed three attempts to pass before you will be required to retake a medical assisting course. Your CMA certification is valid for 60 months, and CE credits must be completed to keep it current.
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA): $120. Once you successfully pass the RMA exam, your certification will be valid for a period of three years. To take the RMA exam, you must have five years of experience as a medical assistant or graduate from an accredited program. The RMA exam costs $120.
