The school officially opened its doors in 1936, with Brother Gilbert serving as the headmaster. Initially, it catered to boys from Malden and neighboring cities and towns within the greater Boston area, including Somerville, Medford, Melrose, Charlestown, and Everett.
However, the school closed in 1968, after having seven headmasters. Subsequently, the building was repurposed as a junior high school for the Immaculate Conception School. The lab classrooms were utilized by Girls Catholic High School (the sister school to Boys' Catholic) until 1992 when that school also closed. During the period when both schools were operational, a conservative approach was adopted, with boys being dismissed earlier to prevent them from converging with the girls in the neighborhood at the same time.
Following the closure, Richard Cardinal Cushing, the Archbishop of Boston, advocated for its re-establishment. Consequently, the Xaverian Brothers established a larger, more regional high school on Crystal Street.
