Unlocking Savings: A Comprehensive Guide to Apple's Education Discount Eligibility
Apple has a long-standing commitment to supporting education, dating back to its early days. From donating computers to schools in the 1970s and 80s to launching programs like the Kids Can't Wait initiative, Apple has consistently sought to empower students and educators. Today, this commitment continues through the Apple Education Pricing program, offering discounts on a range of products and services. This article dives deep into the eligibility criteria, available discounts, and how to take advantage of these savings.
Who Qualifies for the Apple Education Discount?
The Apple Education Store offers discounts to those who qualify as a student or work in an educational institution. This isn't limited to teachers and lecturers, but also includes administrative workers and other staff members working at or for a school, college, or university. The Apple student discounts are available for everyone in the education industry, including current and newly accepted college students, parents, faculty, staff, school board members, and homeschool teachers of all grade levels.
Specifically, the following individuals are eligible:
- Students in Higher Education: If you’re attending higher education, or have been accepted into a higher education/post-secondary institution, you qualify for an Apple discount. In the U.K., post-secondary education means university, or any other formal education that takes place after secondary education is complete.
- K-12 Staff: Any employee of a public or private K-12 institution in the United States is eligible, including homeschool teachers. School board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are also eligible.
- Parents of Students: Apple also extends this discount to the parents of eligible students, allowing them to save money while buying an Apple device for their child.
- Education Professionals: Faculty and staff members who work at sixth forms, colleges, or universities (public or private) can redeem Apple’s special pricing.
- Home-based educators: are eligible to purchase.
It's important to note that you can’t get a discount for a Mac or iPad for a child who is currently at school, unless you are employed by the school and buying for the institution, or you are a home educator.

Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI)
Monthly pricing is available when you select Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) as payment type at checkout at Apple, and is subject to credit approval and credit limit. Financing terms vary by product. Taxes and shipping are not included in ACMI and are subject to your card’s variable APR. ACMI is not available for purchases made online at special storefronts. The last month’s payment for each product will be the product’s purchase price, less all other payments at the monthly payment amount. ACMI financing is subject to change at any time for any reason, including but not limited to, installment term lengths and eligible products.
You will be charged one ACMI installment plan over 12 months for the Eligible Product discounted by the instant credit. The value of the Promotion Product will also be charged in a separate second ACMI installment plan (if eligible to be financed via ACMI; if the Promotion Product is ineligible to be financed via ACMI, it must be paid in full) over 6 months for AirPods Promotion Products or 12 months for all other Promotion Products. The total combined amount charged over the 2 separate ACMI installment plans will reflect the original full retail price of the Eligible Product. Separately, you will receive and be charged for the Promotion Product in the amount of the applicable instant credit.
In order to buy an iPhone with ACMI, you must select one of the following carriers: AT&T, Boost Mobile, T-Mobile, or Verizon. An iPhone purchased with ACMI is always unlocked, so you can switch carriers at any time, subject to your carrier’s terms. Additional Benefits and Considerations
Apple Music Student Discount
Apple’s student membership scheme for Apple Music offers those in full-time education a 50 percent subscription discount and this deal is better than ever right now because the Student Apple Music deal also includes Apple TV+ for a limited time (following a 2023 price hike Apple TV+ now costs $9.99/£8.99 a month, up from $6.99/£6.99 per month). To qualify for the student discount, you’ll need to prove that you’re enrolled at an eligible university or college. The discount runs for up to 48 months (four years).
Back-to-School Promotions
Apple often includes free AirPods as a bonus when you buy a Mac or iPad during their back-to-school promotions, which usually run from June through September. Some years, instead of AirPods, Apple gives students a gift card that can be used toward future Apple purchases, including AirPods.
Refurbished Store
If you don’t qualify for an Apple Education Store discount, it's recommended instead checking out the Apple Refurbished Store, which offers discounts for everyone. You can’t apply a student discount in Apple’s Refurbished Store.
Device Protection
Before heading to college, make sure all your valuable electronic devices, including your new MacBook or iPad, are protected against costly device mishaps like cracked screens, liquid spills, or accidental drops.
