LSAT PrepTest 154 Explained: Your Comprehensive Guide
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is a crucial step for anyone aspiring to study law. Familiarizing yourself with the test's format, question types, and time constraints is paramount to success. This article provides a comprehensive guide to LSAT PrepTest 154, offering insights and explanations to help you master the exam.
Understanding the LSAT Format
A large part of preparing to take the LSAT is familiarizing yourself with the mechanics of the test: What does it look like? What is being asked of you? How do you physically provide answers to the test questions? It is recommended that you acquaint yourself with the LSAT in the same format in which your test will be administered. In addition, taking practice tests under time constraints will help you estimate how much time you can afford to spend on each question. It will also help you identify the question types with which you need more practice. Knowing in advance what the test instructions and the question types look like will minimize distractions from your main focus on test day: answering test questions and budgeting your time wisely to do so and complete the test.
The current LSAT format (Pts 101-158) comprises two Logical Reasoning (LR) sections, one Reading Comprehension (RC) section, and one unscored section. However, some older preptests, like PrepTest 154, adhere to a legacy format.
LSAT PrepTest 154: A Unique Case
PrepTest 154 is a new format LSAT Preptest with no logic games section. Its sections come from Preptest 88 (Sections 1, 2 and 3) and Preptest 82 (Section 1). These preptests were administered in September 2019 and September 2017 originally. Section I is the experimental section, which does not count towards your score.
LSAC converted its tests to the current format, it left 22 preptest unconverted. These are valuable sources of extra questions you can use if you run out of material. You can access them via licensees.

Example Question and Explanation from PrepTest 154
Let's analyze a sample question and its explanation to illustrate the reasoning involved in the LSAT.
Scenario: Rhett gives Otto a ride to work every morning and expects him to help pay for fuel. Rhett concludes that he shouldn’t have to help pay for the fuel requires for Otto to give Rhett a ride to work. Barbara’s implicit conclusion is that Rhett should have to help pay for the fuel used by Otto. We’re looking for a point of disagreement.
Analysis:
- Rhett thinks he shouldn’t have to help pay for fuel.
- This is a point of disagreement.
- Rhett thinks he shouldn’t have to pay, because Otto doesn’t use any more fuel from picking up Rhett.
- Barbara doesn’t express an opinion about this. She responds to Rhett’s argument by comparing it to an analogous, flawed argument.
- Rhett doesn’t express an opinion about this.

Common LSAT Question Types and Flaws
The LSAT tests your ability to identify logical flaws and apply reasoning skills. Here's an example of a common flaw and how to recognize it:
Question Type: Flaw in the Argument
Example:
A. B. (Correct Response) Presuming that gnats are necessary condition of wet conditions is the error. This is a way of stating the mistaken negation. C. This is not the type of thinking we want on a question like this, we are given rules and asked to apply them. We know that gnats can ONLY survive in wet climates. D. E. “Fails to establish” means that this is a required component of the argument. The argument does not require this additional clause. It also fights the premises because there are no gnats in dry climates, only wet ones.Probably best to find the flaw before dealing with responses on this question because the flaw is very common, but the way it’s phrased in choice B is somewhat camouflaged.

Explanation:
The correct answer (B) identifies the flaw as presuming that gnats are a necessary condition of wet conditions, which is a mistaken negation. The argument incorrectly assumes that if gnats are present only in wet climates, then wet climates are solely determined by the presence of gnats.
