Long Island University: An Overview of Campuses and Academic Opportunities
Choosing the right college is a significant decision, and Long Island University (LIU), founded in 1926, aims to provide a unique college experience for students seeking academic enrichment and professional opportunities. With a network of over 200,000 alumni, LIU continues to redefine higher education, offering high-quality academic instruction by world-class faculty. Recognized for its emphasis on experiential learning and the "value added" to student outcomes, LIU offers a diverse range of programs across its campuses.
A Multi-Campus University
Long Island University is a private research university with campuses in Brooklyn and Brookville, New York. LIU offers over 150 degree programs and enrolls over 16,000 students across its main campuses: LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post, in addition to non-residential locations and online programs. The LIU Sharks compete in NCAA Division I as a Northeast Conference member.
LIU Brooklyn
LIU Brooklyn enables students to realize their full potential as ethically grounded, intellectually vigorous, and socially responsible global citizens. Located in Downtown Brooklyn, at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues, the campus offers more professional programs in health care than any other campus in the New York metropolitan area. This includes the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy & Health Science and The Harriet Rothkopf Heilbrunn School of Nursing. The main building adjoins the 1920s movie house Paramount Theatre, retaining much of the original decorative detail and a fully operational Wurlitzer organ.
LIU Post
LIU Post, the university's largest campus, spans 350+ acres in Brookville, NY, on Long Island's Gold Coast. This scenic, historic, and scholarly campus offers a small-school environment with the access and resources of a major metropolitan university. The campus houses the College of Veterinary Medicine, the first professional School of Accountancy, an AACSB-accredited Business School, and an award-winning theater program. LIU Post is just 20 minutes from world-renowned beaches and 30 miles from New York City. The campus is located on the estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post, 27 miles east of New York City. The 330-acre campus includes historic 1920s mansions, gardens, athletic fields, art studios and performing arts space, broadcast television and radio stations, an on-campus sustainable energy facility, and the only on-campus equestrian facility on Long Island. LIU Post was home to the NCAA Division II LIU Post Pioneers and is the site of the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.
