Lone Star Leadership Academies
Lone Star Leadership Academies are Sunday-Friday overnight camps (DFW has a day option) offered throughout the summer for outstanding 3rd-8th graders. Campers have the opportunity to explore significant sites in Texas’ three largest metropolitan areas with other outstanding students… all before 9th grade!
During the camps, young leaders travel to Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin/San Antonio, or Houston/Galveston for a week of fun, learning, leadership development, and visits to significant Texas sites. In addition to improving their leadership abilities, participants gain self-confidence and independence, and develop new friendships with other high-achieving students from across the state.
Gabriella De La Rosa of Lyford CISD shares what the Lone Star Leadership Academy experience meant to her! Other camp alumni share what the Lone Star Leadership Academy experience meant to them!
One parent shares, "This camp had such an influence on my daughter and now my son. After each camp, I have seen great improvement in their ability to interact with their peers and in their confidence. Seeing them learn so much and get so excited about what they learn is great!"
Another parent says, “I could write several pages about the positive impact the Lone Star Leadership Academy has had on my daughter. Your organization came along at a time when she was really struggling with feeling different from her classmates (so common with GT kids) and this experience showed her she wasn't alone. I sincerely believe this experience has changed the trajectory of her childhood if not her life."

Lone Star Virtual Academy (LSVA)
LSVA is a tuition-free, public school program. Lone Star Virtual Academy provides a strong alternative that supports your student on their time and in their way. Like many traditional brick-and-mortar schools, most online schools are “one size fits all.” That is why we built our school to be unique and individualized! We know that each student is unique and needs personalized attention to be successful. We built a Texas virtual school with a commitment to delivering a customized educational experience to each and every student.
Commitment to Personalized Learning
LSVA is a high-quality education that is future-focused, preparing students for college and their careers. We focus on personalized learning that is geared toward the individual needs of our students. Our 6th through 12th grade virtual classrooms provide flexibility and opportunity to learn from Texas-certified teachers. Traditional brick-and-mortar schools simply don’t work for every student all the time. Higher education online offerings are a mainstay for colleges and universities. In fact, 30% of higher education classes are now online. Additionally, technology-based careers are growing at an exponential pace.
Attendance and Structure
Our live instruction is 100% online-based, allowing for greater flexibility and mobility for our students and teachers. Attendance will be taken each day and students are required to login for a total of 240 minutes each day to avoid being counted absent. Students that reach 10 unexcused absences are at risk for being withdrawn. As Texas public school students, all students enrolled in LSOA must comply with the state-required minimum number of 180 instructional days. Students are expected to be in school with LSOA Monday through Friday, at least 4-6 hours a day each day. The school calendar includes school holidays or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. Parents are encouraged to contact their student’s teacher if they plan a vacation that does not coordinate with the school calendar. In the younger grades, many of the online lessons include offline work. Students in grades K-2 spend about 30-40 percent of their time on the computer, while students in grades 3-5 spend about 50-60 percent of their time online. Students spend time with classmates online and through school outings, field trips, and other activities.
Outings and Clubs
Throughout the school year, students and families will be invited to attend local and virtual outings in various places around the state. This is a great opportunity for our students and families to meet other families and connect with one another. With online learning, your child can learn at home, or wherever there's an internet connection, while enjoying the benefits and support of a school program.
Lone Star Online Academy at Roscoe (LSOA)
