Lone Star College-Houston North: Programs and Services for a Brighter Future

Lone Star College-Houston North (LSC-Houston North) is dedicated to putting students first and providing comprehensive support to help them succeed academically and professionally. With multiple locations and a wide array of programs and services, LSC-Houston North strives to meet the diverse needs of the community and empower students to achieve their educational and career goals.

Locations and Areas of Study

LSC-Houston North has four convenient locations: Fairbanks, Fallbrook, Greenspoint, and Victory. Each location offers specific programs tailored to different areas of study:

  • LSC-Houston North Fairbanks: Programs in Energy, Manufacturing & Construction, and Engineering, Mathematics, & Sciences. These programs prepare students for careers as engineering or lab technicians and are designed to transfer to a 4-year institution. Opened in 2002 at 12750 Walters Rd.
  • LSC-Houston North Fallbrook: Programs in Arts, Humanities, Communication and Design, and Computer/Digital Technology. Also offers an Associate of Arts in Teaching, designed to transfer to a 4-year institution for K-12 education careers. Located at 12750 Walters Road.
  • LSC-Houston North Greenspoint: Programs in Business & Professional Services, preparing students for careers in management and administration. The Business Field of Study program is designed for transfer to a 4-year institution. Located on a Metro route 86 near I-45, south of the Beltway on the feeder, just east of Greenspoint Drive, this location includes credit and non-credit programming specifically designed to meet community needs. LSC-Houston North Greenspoint began offering classes at this center in 2004.
  • LSC-Houston North Victory: Programs in Energy, Manufacturing, Construction, and Public Safety Human Services. Also offers an Associate of Arts with a focus of study in Criminal Justice, preparing students for careers such as private investigator or correctional or probation officer. Located at 4141 South Victory Drive, formerly known as the Carver Center until breaking ground in 2010.

Comprehensive Support Services

LSC-Houston North provides wraparound services and college resources to alleviate stressors and ensure student success. These services include:

  • Community Assistance and Resources for Everyone (C.A.R.E.) Program: Provides funding for classes, textbooks, technology, and support for maintaining a stable home environment. Students can complete the CARE Request Form on myLoneStar.
  • Advising: Academic advisors and licensed professional counselors are available to guide students through the advising process, which is an integral part of academic success.
  • Financial Aid: Financial assistance covers educational expenses including tuition, fees, books, and supplies. LSC maintains student financial aid records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Scholarships: Various scholarship opportunities are available to LSC-Houston North students. Due to limited funding, scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Faculty Senate Emergency Fund: Provides up to $300 per student for class needs (textbooks, lab supplies, etc.) for students enrolled at LSC-HN and not receiving financial aid.
  • Student Life: The LSC-Houston North Office of Student Life implements co-curricular enrichment opportunities and establishes engaging relationships across the college.
  • Communities in Schools (CIS): CIS is dedicated to serving students and is adjusting to the current circumstances in our community. The current CIS phone number is 281-545-7562.

Adult Education and Literacy Programs

Lone Star College-Houston North also offers Adult Education and Literacy programs to help individuals improve their English language proficiency, prepare for the GED® test, and gain workforce skills.

  • Adult Education Program: Helps students improve their English skills to achieve goals such as citizenship, a high school diploma, transition to post-secondary education, or employment. Classes are grant-funded.
  • GED® Test Preparation: Provides the knowledge needed to pass the High School Equivalency exam and start a career. Classes are grant-funded and free for eligible students.
  • Workforce Education and Training Certificates: Students can work on GED® test preparation or improve their English language proficiency AND earn a non-credit, fast-track Workforce Education and Training Certificate with a career pathways grant! Funding is available for programs in business, health care, and trade careers. Concurrent enrollment in ABE Math and Reading for Allied Health Careers or IET EL CIVICS course is required. Classes are grant-funded.

Adult Education Program Details

To participate in the Adult Education Program, prospective students should:

  1. Schedule an Orientation/Testing appointment with an Adult Education and Literacy Program Advisor. Orientations are first come, first served and provide students with an overview of the program's requirements.
  2. Bring required documents to the orientation, including a government-issued photo ID and Social Security Card (if applicable). A social security card is not required.
  3. Complete the Eligibility Testing Request Form. Eligibility is required one business day prior to funding. Tuition funding is available on a first come, first served basis. Please allow 7-10 business days to complete the eligibility process.
  4. Take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) if interested in High School Equivalency and workforce programs. The TABE assesses students in Reading, Mathematics, and Language and is aligned to the national College and Career Readiness Standards.

*Minors accepted with age-related documentation and SIGNED school withdrawal form.

*Students can ONLY be served if the Adult Education and Literacy Program has received a valid court order with a docket/case number. Students can only be served if the Adult Education and Literacy Program has received the parental permission AND signed withdrawal from school OR court order with docket/case number.

ESOL Program Updates

Orientations for NEW ESOL students will reopen on October 15th to allow students to enroll in Spring bridge classes. Funding for NEW students wanting workforce program support is still unavailable. Thank you for your understanding.

Additional Programs and Opportunities

  • Occupational and Life Skills Associate (OLSA): A four-year comprehensive post-secondary education opportunity for students who have disabilities that affect executive functioning.
  • Workforce Programs: Offer build-able certifications leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree. Prepares you to enter a specialized career field or upgrade your skills for job advancement. Most certificate awards are structured to allow you to move on to a higher-level certificate or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
  • General Education Courses: Transferable to other institutions, preparing students for promotion and advancement into leadership positions.

Enrollment Information

Lone Star College is an open-enrollment institution, and applying is always free. Prospective students should take the following steps to ensure a smooth enrollment process:

  1. Apply to LSC-Houston North: Complete the online application.
  2. Submit Required Documents:
    • Submit your SAT or ACT scores (within the past 5 years), view qualifying testing scores at the bottom of our Placement Testing page. If you have completed TSI testing within 5 years at another institution or ISD, we can retrieve your scores. Contact Testing Staff for more information. Provide an official transcript indicating completion of college level English or Algebra to our Admissions & Records Department. Your transcript can be sent electronically or delivered in person.
    • LSC-Houston North also uses alternative placement standards approved by the coordinating board. Students can access the PAA by visiting tsipreview.com. Once the pre-assessment is completed, students can take their TSI Assessment.
    • LSC-Houston North make it easy to send transcripts or General Education Development (GED).
  3. Attend New Student Orientation (NSO): All new students are required to attend NSO, which is designed to provide the tools needed for success inside and outside the classroom.
