Partnership with Homeboy Industries

Homeboy Industries' Educational Services Team engages a significant number of individuals each day, offering a wide range of classes and groups. The academic curriculum provides support in high school equivalency test preparation, college readiness, reading, and writing. Over thirty adult students are enrolled in prep classes and individual tutoring to obtain their GED credential, while an additional dozen are working towards receiving their high school diploma. The Pathways to College program engages over forty trainees and community clients in post-secondary education, offering a biannual workshop series and personalized support. More than 300 trainees and community clients participate in the classes offered through the Educational Services department every month, filling almost 3000 seats monthly. Education is seen as key to reducing recidivism, easing reintegration, and enhancing opportunities for employment, family reunification, and healing.
Learning Works adapts traditional and alternative learning strategies to better serve its community, providing hope through education. Aside from facilitating an enriching environment conducive to learning, healing, and growing, the school supports a range of classes for court-mandated clients referred for Domestic Violence Battererâs Intervention Program, Anger Management, or Parenting classes.

The alliance between Learning Works and Homeboy Industries began in 2010, with Learning Works teaching students at the Homeboy Industriesâ Learning Works satellite campus in Boyle Heights. Out of the 66 Learning Works students who earned their diplomas, 26 were Homeboy Industriesâ students. All classes are offered onsite at Homeboy Industries.
