The LAGRANT Foundation Scholarship: A Guide to Requirements and Opportunities

TLF Scholarship Programs

Each year, The LAGRANT Foundation provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate ethnic minority students who are attending accredited institutions and are pursuing careers in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations. TLF offers two primary scholarship programs: the traditional scholarship and the Healthcare Marcom scholarship.

Traditional Scholarship

This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in advertising, marketing, or public relations. Recipients of the traditional scholarship receive a trip to either New York City, Portland, OR, or Minneapolis, MN, where they participate in career-building activities.

Healthcare Marcom Scholarship

The Healthcare Marketing & Communications (marcom) scholarship is specifically for students interested in communications & marketing in the healthcare industry. This scholarship awards 10-20 students with a three-day trip to New Jersey, where they participate in career building & professional development activities and network with various companies in the healthcare field.

*Please note: You are only allowed to submit one application for either the traditional scholarship or the Healthcare Marcomm scholarship.

General Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for TLF scholarships, applicants must meet several criteria. These requirements ensure that the scholarship supports students who are committed to their field of study and demonstrate the potential to contribute to the advertising, marketing, and public relations industries.

Citizenship and Ethnicity

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients. Additionally, they must be a member of one of the following ethnic groups: African American, Asian Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American/Alaska Native.

Academic Standing

Applicants must have a minimum GPA. If they do not meet this GPA requirement, the applicants must address this in their essay.

  • Undergraduate: 2.75 GPA
  • Graduate: 3.2 GPA

Enrollment Status

Applicants must be full-time students at a four-year, accredited institution, carrying a total of 12 units or more per semester/quarter.

Field of Study

Applicants pursuing the traditional scholarship must major in a field of study with an emphasis on public relations, marketing, or advertising or must minor in communications with a desire to pursue a career in public relations, marketing, or advertising.

For the Healthcare Marcom scholarship, applicants should demonstrate a specific interest in communications and marketing within the healthcare industry.

Time to Degree Completion

Applicants must have at least one year to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarship is awarded in June. Graduate & Ph.D. MUST have a MINIMUM OF TWO ACADEMIC SEMESTERS or ONE-YEAR left to complete his/her Master’s degree from the time the scholarship is awarded in May. Summer semesters do not count.

Availability

Recipients MUST be available to participate in the scholarship activities in May. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF’s scholarship activities as noted at top of page to receive the scholarship. Recipients MUST be available to participate in the scholarship activities in May.

Essays

Applicants must write essays that address their career goals, steps they will take to increase ethnic representation in their field, and their understanding of the role of an advertising, marketing, or public relations practitioner.

  • Traditional Scholarship: Applicant must write a one to two-page, typed essay outlining his/her career goals and what steps he/she will take to increase the lack of ethnic representation in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations. In addition, applicant must define the role of an advertising, marketing or public relations practitioner (depending on emphasis). Applicant can include accomplishments relevant to increasing awareness about diversity in his/her community.
  • Healthcare Marcom Scholarship: A one-page essay about what inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare marketing and communications.

Additional Information

Applicants must provide a brief paragraph explaining college and/or community activities in which he/she is involved, including dates. They should also describe any honors and awards that he/she has received, including dates.

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from your college/university are required with the application. If you are selected as a finalist, you must provide official transcripts.

Letter of Reference

Applicants must submit one reference letter from a college professor or internship advisor.

Career Building Activities

The scholarship recipients will receive a trip where they will participate in career building activities, including a welcome dinner with a keynote speaker, three daylong career development & professional workshops and a scholarship & donor recognition reception. The scholarship provides financial assistance to help cover tuition and other educational expenses.

Application Deadline and Submission

Applications must be submitted online no later than February 27, 2026. Applications submitted on or before January 20, 2026, will receive an additional 10 bonus points to their application. PST on Friday, February 27, 2026. Note: You MUST submit all required materials together as ONE submission.
