Empowering Learners: A Look at Kasson-Mantorville Community Education Programs
Kasson-Mantorville School District is committed to fostering an atmosphere of excellence, empowering, and inspiring all students to become prosperous, responsible citizens in a global society. Community Education programs play a vital role in achieving this vision by providing diverse learning opportunities for students and community members of all ages.
High Potential Program: Nurturing Gifted Learners
The High Potential Program at the elementary school is a testament to the district's vision. This program focuses on providing enrichment classes specifically designed for gifted and high-ability learners. Students in grades 1-4 are carefully identified through a multi-faceted approach, considering national test scores, state or local test scores, teacher recommendations, and parent input.
These enrichment classes meet for 25-30 minutes each day. The primary objective is to present students with novel challenges that require persistence to overcome, fostering resilience and a growth mindset.
For students demonstrating exceptional achievement, scoring in the 95th percentile in reading, math, or both, a direct intervention plan is implemented. This plan ensures that a small group of students receive targeted, direct instruction in their area(s) of strength every day. The curriculum utilized for this instruction is specifically designed to challenge and engage gifted and high-ability learners.
Expanding Learning Through Volunteers
Kasson-Mantorville recognizes the invaluable contribution of volunteers in enriching the educational experience. Volunteers actively participate in leading extracurricular activities such as chess clubs and literature groups, providing students with additional avenues for exploration and growth. Through the collaborative efforts of students, volunteers, and teachers, the district strives to cultivate a culture of continual learning and responsible citizenship.

Accessing Community Education Classes
Registering for Community Education classes is designed to be a straightforward process. Most individuals opt to register online through the designated “online registration” tab. New users may need to allow a few extra minutes for the initial account setup. Alternatively, registrations can be processed by phone by contacting the Community Education Office at (507) 634-4464. Ensuring Equitable Access
Kasson-Mantorville Community Education is committed to ensuring that all members of the community have the opportunity to participate in its events and classes. Recognizing that financial constraints may pose a barrier for some, the program offers scholarship information. Community Education also collaborates with UCare to expand access to its programs. Stay Informed
The K-M Community Education brochure is published three times a year, providing a comprehensive overview of upcoming classes and events. Residents can anticipate delivery of the brochure the week after Labor Day in September, the first week in January, and the third week in April.
