The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Summer Internship Program offers an unparalleled opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to NASA and JPL missions. This 10-week, full-time, summer internship program is designed for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
The JPL Internship Experience
As a JPL intern, you'll play a hands-on role in making the impossible a reality. Interns are partnered with JPL scientists or engineers, who serve as the students' mentors. Students complete designated projects outlined by their mentors, gaining educational experience in their fields of study while also contributing to NASA and JPL missions and science. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of enrichment activities, including tours, lectures and career advisement, arranged by the JPL Education Office.

JPL internship programs are designed for college and university students from diverse backgrounds and offer a chance to take part in groundbreaking research and missions that are expanding our understanding of Earth, the solar system, and beyond. As a JPL intern, you’ll play a hands-on role in making the impossible a reality.

Eligibility and Application Process
For JPL programs, once you have submitted your application to the appropriate program, your application will be reviewed by the Education Office to determine if the eligibility requirements have been met. Potential mentors will search and review applications in the database to determine finalists.

The JPL Summer Internship Program Internship is available to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) disciplines. citizen/legal permanent resident to be considered for this position. Undergraduate or graduate US citizens enrolled full-time or accepted for full-time at a Space Grant-affiliated college or university are eligible. Competitions for awards are generally held in January. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Beyond STEM: Opportunities for All Majors
A common misconception is that NASA only offers engineering internships. Please know that we have opportunities for students who are not majoring in engineering. NASA needs employees with a variety of knowledge and skills. Even if you are not a science or engineering student, you can get an internship at NASA! Interns may support a variety of business and program management work, including human resources, administration and program analysis, accounting and budget, communication and public relations, procurement and contracts, information technology, security, and education.
At NASA, our engineers, mathematicians, scientists, accountants, writers, IT specialists, project managers, program analysts, and many other professionals work together to break barriers to achieve the seemingly impossible.

NASA Space Grant
NASA Space Grant is a national consortium that supports students in aeronautics, space science and technology, and related fields, and encourages cooperative programs among colleges, universities, business, and federal, state, and local governments.
Students in the JPL Space Grant program spend 10 weeks in the summer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Undergraduate or graduate US citizens enrolled full-time or accepted for full-time at a Space Grant-affiliated college or university are eligible. Competitions for awards are generally held in January. citizen or legal permanent resident.
Administrative Support
The Student-Faculty Programs office provides administrative support to several NASA/JPL summer programs, which include NASA Space Grant, NASA SUPPR, and JPLSIP. Students apply directly to these programs. However, once admitted students may apply to live on the Caltech campus and will join a large community of undergraduate researchers.
Many of these JPL programs will ask students to submit a resume.
Housing and Transportation
Interns are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. This includes locating their own housing options and paying for their housing. Your center location and housing options will determine if you need a car. At most centers, unless you find housing within walking distance, you will most likely need a car.

NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement provides, annually, more than 2,000 students the opportunity to impact the agency’s mission through a hands-on internship. OSTEM internships offer students an opportunity to gain practical work experience while working side-by-side with mentors who are research scientists, engineers, and individuals from many other professions. Internships may be full time or part time on a NASA center or facility.
