HMSA Kaimana Scholarship: Empowering Hawaii's Future Leaders
The HMSA Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program stands as a beacon of opportunity for graduating high school seniors in Hawaii. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this initiative underscores HMSA's commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders. The program recognizes students who demonstrate excellence across academics, athletics, and community service, providing them with financial assistance to pursue their higher education goals.
Overview of the HMSA Kaimana Scholarship
HMSA will award up to 20 students $5,000 scholarships each. The scholarships are available to students from public, private, and independent schools in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, Interscholastic League of Honolulu, Kauai Interscholastic Federation, Maui Interscholastic League, and Oahu Interscholastic Association. Recipients may use their scholarships to pay for college tuition, books, computers, and room and board.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the HMSA Kaimana Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Graduation: Graduate from a Hawaii high school.
- GPA: Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher verified by a school transcript (official or unofficial) submitted by a school faculty member.
- Athletic Participation: Have participated in at least one sport during one or more of their high school years. Eligible sports must be sanctioned by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA). New this year, eligibility has been expanded so students who participated in any school or club sport during high school may apply. Have participated in at least one athletic sport during high school that included competition as an individual or as part of a team.
- Community Service: Have participated in community service projects in addition to school activities during their high school years.
- Essays and Personal Statement: Write a personal statement and an essay about community and well-being.
- Letters of Recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation from school faculty, mentors, or coaches.
Applications and all supporting documents, including letter of recommendations and transcripts, are due Friday, Feb.
