Unlocking Opportunities: A Comprehensive Guide to the Fashion Scholarship Fund
The Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) stands as a beacon for aspiring talents eager to make their mark on the fashion industry. By offering financial aid, mentorship programs, and unparalleled access to industry leaders, the FSF paves the way for students from diverse backgrounds to realize their dreams. This article delves into the various facets of the FSF, outlining eligibility criteria, application processes, scholarship benefits, and key dates to remember.
Introduction to the Fashion Scholarship Fund
The Fashion Scholarship Fund is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of fashion industry leaders. Through its comprehensive programs, the FSF not only provides financial assistance but also equips scholars with the necessary tools and networks to thrive in a competitive landscape. The annual FSF Case Study Scholarship serves as the organization's signature program, challenging students to tackle real-world issues facing the fashion industry today.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
The FSF offers several scholarship programs, each with specific eligibility requirements. However, some general criteria apply to most applicants:
- Academic Standing: Qualifying students must be enrolled as full-time students at a member FSF college/university. The FSF Case Study Scholarship is open to undergraduate full-time students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors during the fall semester. Seniors must not be graduating earlier than May.
- Major: Students of any major with a demonstrated interest in fashion are qualified to apply. Previous scholars have included marketing, finance, psychology, and art history majors in addition to fashion design, merchandising, and textile majors.
- Member School Enrollment: Eligible students from member schools may apply. Students must be selected by the educator contact at one of the member schools.
- Visa Requirements: If you are an international student, you must have an F-1 Visa and are encouraged to submit a CPT for any semester prior to the case study deadline.
The FSF Case Study Competition
All Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) scholarship applicants will enter a case study competition. To win a FSF Scholarship, you must complete a written case study in one of four areas - all four areas focus on Collaborations Between Fashion Brands/Retailers and Companies in Other Industries outside of the fashion industry, such as entertainment, technology, transportation, hospitality, or service industries:
- Business Strategy: Establish a long-term strategic partnership centered around a cross-industry collaboration that creates mutual benefits such as customer growth and improved sales performance.
- Design and Product Development: Create a collaborative collection between a fashion brand and non-fashion brand that distills fashion’s influence in external industries.
- Marketing: Establish a marketing plan centered around a cross-industry collaboration to engage the marketing funnel and create lifetime customer value.
- Merchandising: Curate a collaborative assortment between a fashion brand and non-fashion brand demonstrating product and distribution opportunities.
Applicants must decide which area they would like to compete in, as you may only compete in one of the four areas listed above.

Benefits of Being an FSF Scholar
Becoming an FSF Scholar unlocks a plethora of opportunities designed to propel students toward successful careers in the fashion industry. These benefits extend beyond financial aid and include:
- Scholarship Money: The amount awarded is $5,000. 160 undergraduate students from 50 universities will win scholarships of $10,000 (finalists $15,000-$25,000). Scholarship funds can be applied to any educational expenses such as tuition, summer intern housing, study abroad, etc. The Fashion Scholarship Fund’s expectations for the use of the scholarship award is pretty straightforward. A Scholar must demonstrate a commitment to his/her studies, remain a student in good standing, and honor the academic obligations as required by his/her school. It’s the Scholar’s responsibility to follow the policy of his/her college/university to process the funds received. It’s possible that the FSF Scholarship may be applied to the Scholar’s financial aid award. If the Scholar’s college/university doesn’t require the FSF Scholarship to be applied to a financial aid award, the student may use the funds to fulfill other financial obligations, such as college tuition or payment to a private lender for a college loan.
- Expense Paid Trip to New York for FSF Gala Events: Scholarship winners are invited to the annual FSF Awards Gala in New York City. The Fashion Scholarship Fund will gather more than 750 Scholars, Alumni, industry leaders, designers, and influencers in NYC to celebrate the FSF Class of 2026.

FSF Scholars can attend our bi-annual Virtual Talent Acquisition Events and connect with recruitment representatives from some of the industry’s most prestigious fashion companies.
- Summer Fashion Industry Internships:
- Mentorships from Industry Leaders: Scholarship recipients can join the FSF Mentor Program and select a Mentor during the year of their award. Each Community College Scholarship recipient will be matched according to discipline for a meaningful mentorship experience with a former FSF Scholar who has graduated from college and moved on to a fashion industry career. The program is designed with regular monthly check-ins between Mentors and Mentees from May through September.
