Navigating Tuition Reimbursement at Darden School of Business
Pursuing an MBA is a significant investment, and understanding the financial aid landscape is crucial. Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia is committed to making its MBA program accessible through various scholarships, loan options, and tuition assistance programs, especially for U.S. military veterans and active duty service members. This article provides a detailed overview of tuition reimbursement opportunities and financial aid resources available to prospective and current Darden students.
Comprehensive Financial Aid at Darden
Darden School of Business is dedicated to providing students with multiple financial avenues to help manage the costs associated with a graduate business education. The school aims to be among the world's most accessible business schools, offering an extensive portfolio of merit scholarships, ranging from partial to full tuition coverage, and several competitive, highly selective scholarships.
The University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors establishes the tuition rates for all its schools and colleges, including Darden. To support students, Darden ensures various financial opportunities are available.
Financial aid can be utilized to cover the full Cost of Attendance (COA) for the program. The maximum amount of financial aid, including scholarships, loans, and any other known resources, is capped at the total COA, which varies based on residency status and whether federal loans are received. It's important to note that students must apply for financial aid annually, as the current application covers only the First Year (2025-2026 academic year). Any financial aid funds exceeding direct costs are refunded by the University at the beginning of each semester.
Understanding the Cost of Attendance (COA)
The Cost of Attendance (COA) includes tuition, fees, and living expenses. However, it's important to note that the figures for room, board, and miscellaneous personal living expenses included in your COA are only for the 9 months you are enrolled in classes.

Post 9/11 GI Bill ® and Monthly Allowance for Housing (MHA)
Veterans/Dependents receiving benefits under the Post 9/11 GI Bill ® may be eligible for a monthly allowance for housing (MHA). The amount of the MHA is based on the military's Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rates for an E-5 with dependents for Charlottesville, VA. The Department of Defense adjusts the military BAH rate every calendar year (or 1 January) based on changes to housing costs across the country. If the BAH increases on 1 January, veterans will not see an increase until their September payment for training pursued in August.
