In recent years, Colby has seen record-breaking application numbers, with 20,144 students vying for a place in the Class of 2029. This influx of applications has naturally led to a lower acceptance rate, making it more challenging for prospective students to gain admission. The acceptance rate at Colby College is 7.1%, making it extremely selective. The overall acceptance rate is around 7 percent which is equal about 1,400 students who passed the admission process of the school.

Academic Excellence
Colby seeks applicants who exemplify academic excellence. To ensure a common educational base, a minimum of 16 academic preparatory units is strongly recommended, including four years of English, three of a single foreign language, three of college preparatory mathematics, two of history or social studies, two of laboratory science, and two years of other college preparatory electives.
Meeting their GPA requirements and SAT/ACT requirements is very important to getting past their first round of filters and proving your academic preparation. If you don't meet their expectations, your chance of getting in is nearly zero. The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. requires you to be at the top of your class. You'll need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants. If you're currently a junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change in time for college applications. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 4.13, you'll need a higher SAT or ACT score to compensate.
Accepted Colby students are insanely accomplished, with nearly 95% of the Class of 2029 hailing from the top decile of their graduating class.
Test-Optional Policy and Standardized Test Scores
Colby is test optional. Students may choose whether to submit the results of their standardized test scores with their application for admission. Students choosing to submit SAT, ACT, or SAT Subject Test scores may elect to self-report their standardized test scores on the application. Official scores will be required only for students who submitted test results with their application and choose to enroll at Colby.

Despite this policy, the truth is that most students still take the SAT or ACT, and most applicants to Colby College will submit their scores. If you don't submit scores, you'll have one fewer dimension to show that you're worthy of being admitted, compared to other students. Because this school is extremely selective, getting a high SAT/ACT score and GPA is vital to having a chance at getting in.
Of students admitted to the Class of 2029 (different from enrolled), the median SAT score was 1520 while the median ACT score was 34. Half the applicants admitted to Colby College who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1460 and 1550 or an ACT score between 32 and 34. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.
To have the best shot of getting in, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1530 SAT or a 34 ACT. You should also have a 4.13 GPA or higher. But if you apply with a score below a 1530 SAT or a 34 ACT, you unfortunately start out with the odds against you and have a tiny chance of getting in.
Superscoring Policy
Colby College is understood to superscore the ACT. Superscoring is powerful to your testing strategy, and you need to make sure you plan your testing accordingly. The 25th percentile SAT score is 1470, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1530. This is also known as "superscoring." This means that you can choose which SAT tests you want to send to the school.
Even though the highest total you scored on any one test date was 1000, Colby College will take your highest section score from all your test dates, then combine them to form your Superscore. This is important for your testing strategy. Because you can choose which tests to send in, and Colby College forms your Superscore, you can take the SAT as many times as you want, then submit only the tests that give you the highest Superscore. Therefore, if your SAT superscore is currently below a 1530, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. Even better, because of the Superscore, you can focus all your energy on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, prep only for the Reading section, then take the SAT. Then focus on Math for the next test, and so on.

If English is neither your first language nor your current language of instruction we require a score report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT or Home Edition, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic at a test center or online, or Duolingo English Test (DET).
Early Decision Options
Colby offers two opportunities for students to apply via binding Early Decision, with an ED I deadline on November 15 and an ED II deadline on January 3. The school has not released recent ED numbers, but looking at past statistics, one can see that applying ED is a massive admissions advantage at Colby. If you’re 100 percent sure that Colby is for you, consider applying Early Decision. We’ll give you our decision quickly, but if you are admitted, we expect you to withdraw all other applications.

If you have filed your regular decision application prior to the deadlines of November 15 or January 5, you can convert your application to Early Decision by submitting a signed Early Decision Agreement by December 1 in the case of EDI, or by February 1 in the case of EDII.
