At the heart of many club-related scholarship opportunities lies The Club Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization established by the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) in 1988. The core of The Club Foundation’s mission is to help fund professional development opportunities for club managers. The Club Foundation raises funds to financially support the professional development of club managers through education, training, and research initiatives. The Club Foundation is committed to supporting the full career lifecycle of club professionals.

Key Scholarship Programs Offered by The Club Foundation

The Club Foundation offers a variety of scholarships designed to support different stages of a club professional's career. These scholarships are awarded annually, based on the availability of funds and the merit of the application.

  • The Warren Arseneaux Honorary Scholarship: Established in 2007 by the CMAA Wine Society and funded by The Club Foundation beginning in 2025, this scholarship honors Warren L. Arseneaux, CCM, an instrumental founder of the CMAA Wine Society and a CMAA Past President. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition for a CMAA Wine Society member who has a passion and love for wine and is interested in continuing his or her professional development. Any CMAA Wine Society member who has current CMAA Professional (01) status and who is dedicated to professional development in the knowledge of wine is invited to apply. To help recipients expand upon their knowledge of wine, the scholarship will cover the registration fee associated with the BMI Wine and Food Experience and other travel/lodging expenses (totaling no more than $5,000, collectively for course registration, travel, lodging, etc.).
  • The John and Andrea Dorman Scholarship: This scholarship speaks directly to those essential elements of engagement and education, for emerging club leaders to reach professional excellence. This scholarship funds the tuition cost of your choice of one of the CMAA Business Management Institutes (BMI) or the Certification Review Course. Scholarship awards will be granted based on merit of the application.
  • The Jim Singerling Scholarship: This scholarship was created in honor of CMAA’s long-time CEO, Jim Singerling, CCM, upon his retirement after 25 years of leadership. Be a Professional or Alumnus member of CMAA who is interested in attending the CMAA World Conference for their first time as a club professional.
  • The Willmoore H. Kendall Scholarship Fund: In 2001, the Willmoore H. Kendall Scholarship Fund was established in memory of CMAA Past President Bill Kendall, CCM. Applications must include a letter of support from the applicant's Chapter. Applicants should submit their resume, essay, and letters of recommendation to their Chapter for review by October 1. If the Chapter supports the application, they will provide the applicant with their letter of support.
  • The DeLozier Family Scholarship Fund: About The DeLozier Family initiated this Scholarship Fund in 2024 to support and promote emerging leaders in the club industry, fostering advancement and career development for individuals who are underrepresented in the club management profession. Further, recipients may receive complimentary support services from the DeLozier Group, for assistance with career development and related career counseling in accordance with the terms of a separate agreement between the recipient and the DeLozier Group.

Beyond scholarships, The Club Foundation also supports faculty development and research within the club industry.

  • The Faculty Development & Immersion Program: The Faculty Development & Immersion Program is a newly developed CMAA-led initiative designed to strengthen faculty understanding of the private club industry and enhance hospitality curricula. Through a merit-based application process, faculty from colleges and universities with hospitality or related programs may be chosen to receive up to $5,000 in travel support and complimentary registration to two CMAA events. Participants also gain access to club-focused research and teaching materials, connections to CMAA’s Faculty Member Interest Group, introductions to guest lecturers, mentorship from industry professionals, and continued opportunities for professional growth.
  • The Faculty Research Grant Program: The Faculty Research Grant Program, a CMAA Research Department-led program, maintains a goal of supporting Club Industry Research projects and efforts on the part of hospitality faculty members of accredited, four-year institutions, with established hospitality degree programs. As a Faculty Research Grant recipient, grantees will receive support from the CMAA Research and Education departments and also be considered for funding from The Club Foundation based on the availability of funds.

Chapter Workshop Grants

The purpose of the Chapter Workshop Grant is to support small and medium Chapters by providing funds for education/workshop activities at the Chapter level. Chapter Workshop Grants are awarded based on financial need and merit of the application. The maximum award amount per Chapter is $2,500 for use during the granting year.

Clubs of America Scholarship Award

The Clubs of America Scholarship is dedicated to helping students achieve their dreams. The scholarship awards $1,000 to one hardworking student each year.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

To apply for this scholarship, students must submit an online application in addition to the below application materials. In order to apply, you must write an essay of 600 words or less about how your current studies will help you achieve success in your future career. Applicants also have the option of submitting a Youtube video that is 5 minutes or shorter in length. college or university with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is welcome to apply.

Application Process and Deadlines

Eligible students will: Write an essay of no fewer than 600 words about your career aspirations and how your current studies will help you achieve success in your career. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Video should be no longer than 5 minutes. (Essays submitted via YouTube must also be submitted in writing.) All entries must be submitted by midnight on August 31 of each year. The winning applicant will be selected in the month of September of each year. Award Amount One gift totaling $1,000 will be awarded at the beginning of fall semester in each year.
