Launch Your Construction Career: Understanding Clark Construction Internship Requirements
Clark Construction is one of the most respected building and civil construction firms in the United States, known for its innovative approach, large-scale projects, and commitment to excellence. An internship with Clark Construction offers students and recent graduates a valuable opportunity to gain real-world experience in the construction industry, working alongside skilled professionals. This article will guide you through the requirements, benefits, and overall experience of a Clark Construction internship.
Overview of Clark Construction Internship Program
Clark Construction’s internship program is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional practice. Interns are immersed in the day-to-day operations of major construction projects, gaining firsthand experience in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, safety management, and field coordination. The program typically lasts 10 to 12 weeks during the summer, although opportunities may also be available throughout the year, depending on project needs. Each summer, between 25 to 35 students participate in our robust internship program on jobsites and in the four office locations across the State of Michigan.
Hands-on Experience and Learning
Clark Construction’s internship experience focuses on experiential learning. Interns work under the guidance of project managers, engineers, and superintendents who provide mentorship and technical support. Interns learn in a hands-on manner, working side by side with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents as well as our trade partners and architectural partners. Interns are a valuable member of each project team, and the mentorship offered allows each intern to apply the education that they’ve received to the field tasks at hand, including but not limited to project administration tasks, and submittal, change order, RFI, punch list, inspection logs and trade hour management. The company also conducts structured training sessions, safety workshops, and professional development seminars to enhance interns’ understanding of the industry. These sessions may cover topics such as sustainable building practices, project controls, design-build delivery, and innovative construction technologies.
As an intern, you will assist with submittal packages including schematics, spec books, rough ins, utility schedules, and project schedules. You will conduct market research, engage in design “jams” with the design team in laying out new commercial kitchen spaces and understanding the customer’s operation, and conduct site visits with sales, design and project management.
