Activity and Athletic Scholarships

Activity and athletic scholarships are selected by the coach and/or sponsor of each activity/sport. Each scholarship requires the recipient to maintain specific eligibility and prescribed participation level requirements to maintain the award. Generally, recipients must attempt and earn at least 12 credit hours each semester and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA each semester.

Casper College T-Bird Rise Scholarship

The T-Bird Rise Scholarship is available for the 2025-2026 academic year to support students who haven’t attended Casper College-or any other college or school-for at least one full year. To be considered, apply for admission by July 1, 2025. Award amounts are $500 per semester for part-time students (6-11 credit hours) and $1,000 per semester for full-time students (12 or more credit hours). Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Casper College T-Bird Award

Students are automatically considered for this scholarship if they (1) apply for admission to Casper College, submit current high school transcripts and ACT scores before December 1 each year, prior to the start of the next academic year, and (2) meet the criteria. The goal of the Casper College T-Bird Award is to recognize high-achieving incoming freshmen students. These are awarded based on cumulative high school 3.0 GPA and ACT 21 composite score.

Hathaway Scholarship

Awarded to high school graduates who are Wyoming residents. The Hathaway Scholarship was established to help Wyoming’s students prepare for and pursue their post-secondary education in the state.

The scholarship has its roots in Governor Stanley Hathaway’s 1974 decision to create the state of Wyoming Permanent Mineral Trust Fund. The fund’s income would support state government operations - including higher education in Wyoming.

In 2005, state lawmakers created a scholarship fund with a $400 million permanent endowment, whose income funds scholarships for qualified Wyoming high school graduates to attend the University of Wyoming or any of the state’s seven community colleges.

Four merit categories ranging from $3,360 to $1,680 per year are available to graduates of eligible Wyoming high schools, high school equivalency certificate (GED or HiSET) recipients, and home-schooled students. Each merit scholarship has specific eligibility requirements. For Hathaway Need scholarships, the program uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form to determine need.

Provisional Opportunity - $840 per semester, minimum GPA 2.5, and ACT score 17 or WorkKeys score of 12 or better. NOTE: Provisional Opportunity Hathaway must be used initially at a community college.

Hathaway awards are available for the equivalent of four full-time semesters (two years) at a community college and four full-time semesters at the University of Wyoming. Maintenance requirements include a minimum 2.5 Hathaway GPA for Honors and Performance recipients and 2.25 Hathaway GPA for Opportunity and Provisional Opportunity recipients. A Hathaway GPA includes all courses attempted for which a student has received Hathaway funding. Remedial courses do not count towards Hathaway GPA, credits or payment. Recipients must be enrolled continuously and complete six credits per semester if awarded Hathaway part time and twelve credits per semester if awarded full time. Students can earn back Hathaway scholarships depending on the original payment and timeframe.

Wyoming’s Tomorrow Scholarship

Wyoming’s Tomorrow is a new state-funded scholarship program for adults enrolling at one of Wyoming’s eight community colleges, or the University of Wyoming, to pursue a degree or certificate.

Golden Age Scholarship

Natrona County residents who are 60 years of age of older may receive a 70% discount on tuition. This scholarship does not cover fees, textbooks, supplies, trips or classes provided by a third-party vendor. Please bring your Wyoming drivers license or Wyoming state ID to Enrollment Services on the 3rd of the Gateway Center for more information.

Great Futures Gold Standard Scholarship Award

A competitive scholarship for one Wyoming Boys & Girls Club member to receive a one-time $5,000 stipend for Housing & Food at the University of Wyoming. Scholarship selection will be based completion of this application, academic merit, and financial need as demonstrated by FAFSA.

Candidates must be Wyoming residents who intend to enroll full-time at UW and meet one of the following criteria:

Current Wyoming high school senior OR
Wyoming community college transfer with an Associate’s Degree by August 1

Candidates must have a minimum of two years or more membership and involvement with their local Boys & Girls Club. The UW Selection Committee will require the Boys & Girls Club Chief Executive Officer to verify involvement.

The combination of the Great Futures Gold Standard Scholarship Award (GFGS), federal financial aid plus other scholarships (including inside or outside of UW) cannot exceed the cost of attendance for the academic year as determined by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

The award is restricted to University of Wyoming Room & Board.

The Cody, American Association of University Women Scholarship

The Cody Branch of the American Association of University Women will be awarding a $2,000.00 scholarship. The deadline for the application is April 1st, and the scholarship will be awarded on May 1.

Wyoming State Golf Association Scholarship

Awards range from $2,000 to $4,000 per academic year. Must be postmarked no later than April 26th, for the 25/26 academic year. The winner will be approved by the WSGA trustees based on a recommendation from the WSGA Executive Committee. The scholarship winner will be announced at the 2024 Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention & Trade Show.

G. William Hurley Health and Education Trust Scholarship

Hurley Oil Properties would like to invite you to apply for the G. William Hurley Health and Education Trust scholarship. The award amount varies, and students will need to answer a series of questions to apply for the scholarship. Application criteria are available in the scholarship office in the Gateway Building, 3rd floor, on the bulletin board between offices GW316 and 317. The deadline is April 4th, for the 25/26 academic year.

Hawthorn Foundation Scholarship Program

The Hawthorn Foundation offers a tuition & fees scholarship to full time students, with a preference to non-traditional students. Applications for the fall term will be accepted June 1 through July 31. Applications for the spring term will be accepted October 1 through November 30th.

Imagining America (IA)/JGS Fellows Program

This fellowship supports undergraduate students pursuing careers in photography and digital media, with a focus on those facing economic or family challenges. Fellows receive a $2,000 tuition scholarship, mentorship, and funding for a community project. Benefits also include travel and registration for the Imagining America National Gathering (Oct. The recipient may elect to attend a Wyoming community college or the University of Wyoming.

Natrona County PTA Scholarship

This scholarship, valued at $250 per semester, is for full-time students (enrolled in at least 12 hours of coursework per semester), available to NCSD #1 graduating seniors attending Casper College. This is a 2-year scholarship paid by the semester and is based on need. Applicant must have and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. There is no stipulation regarding the major.

PEO Casper Chapter AT Scholarship

The P.E.O. Chapter AT Scholarship is available only to women. There is no stipulation regarding major or program of study. The student must be committed to reasonable progress toward a degree and be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at Casper College or UWCC. This scholarship varies in amount depending on available funds from Chapter AT fundraising. Financial need will be a factor in the selection of the applicant(s). Application Deadline: August 1, 2024, for fall semester.

Chapter AC Scholarship is available only to women. Applicant must plan to enroll in an accredited, full-time institute of higher education or technical school. TradeStrong FoundationWomen in Auto Care Scholarships

Women in Auto Care, a community of the Auto Care Association, saw another record year for its scholarship program, distributing 81 awards worth $425,000 in both cash scholarships and tool kits to female students across the United States looking to have a career in the auto care industry. The Women in Auto Care scholarship program began in 2004 with just $2,000 and has continued to gain momentum each year. In 2024, our twentieth year of providing scholarships, the program total has grown to nearly $2,000,000 since its inception.

Wyoming Community Foundation

The Wyoming Community Foundation evaluates local needs and opportunities and looks to fund projects that address the areas of art & culture, community development, education, environment, health, or social needs. There are a wide range of scholarship opportunities from graduating seniors to those already in their higher educational journey. Wyoming Telecommunications Association (WYTA) Scholarship

The scholarship is open to students graduating from high school this year and to students currently enrolled in a college institution. Scholarship awards are based on academic achievement and financial need (weighted). Preference will be given to telecommunications-related studies. The award amount is $1,000. The application form must be submitted by April 14, 2024.

The student or student’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must receive telecommunications service from a participating WYTA member. Eligible companies include All West Communications, Chugwater Telephone Company, Project Telephone Company, Range Companies, Silver Star Communications, TCT/Tri County Telephone, and Union Telephone Company.

The objective of the WYTA Scholarship is to assist individuals who desire to further their education with a focus on telecommunications-related technical skill development.

This scholarship is for Wyoming citizens entering or completing their education in the areas of study listed below. Due to the unique nature of each field, different requirements apply to each category.

Skilled Trade Apprenticeship programs to include, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC. Scholarship money can cover training costs, tools, or other associated expenses to begin a career.

You are unique! Tell us what makes you different and sets you apart from the other applicants.
Ask someone who knows you well to write about you and your achievements for your letter of recommendation. Letters from family members will not be considered.
Make it easy for them to write you a letter of recommendation. You could provide a notecard with bullet points about topics they might mention in their letter, especially if the scholarship has specific requirements, like grades or examples of community service. Enrollment Status: Students must be fully admitted and enrolled as degree seeking in an approved degree or certificate program to be eligible for consideration for federal aid.
Satisfactory Progress: Students receiving federal assistance must meet and maintain academic and satisfactory progress standards each term to remain eligible to receive assistance.
Grade Point Average: Maintain the required GPA for your specific scholarship.
Pace: Students must successfully complete on a cumulative basis at least 67 percent of the courses they attempt.
Maximum Credits Attempted: Federal regulations require students to complete their program of study within a reasonable period defined as 1½ times the minimum credits required to complete a program.

Impact of Withdrawing and Nonattendance

Students who alter their enrollment status (drop or add courses) during a semester are subject to recalculation of their federal financial assistance eligibility and could be required to return a portion or all of their federal assistance. Students must attend class to be eligible for federal assistance. Students who fail to attend some or all of their classes must have their eligibility for federal assistance recalculated, excluding courses they are not attending, regardless of the student’s enrollment status. Students who never attend class must return all over-awarded funds.

Federal Aid Programs

Pell Grant: The Federal Pell Grant is the foundational federal aid program, to which other federal and nonfederal aid sources may be added.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant.
Federal Work-Study: This is a limited, need-based program. Students may work limited hours per week.
Federal Direct Loan: These loans are made to students who request loan consideration. Repayment of the loan principal is deferred until the borrower completes an education program or ceases to be enrolled at least half time.
Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students: Parents may be able to borrow for a dependent student with a PLUS loan. Repayment begins within 60 days.

Combat Veterans and Surviving Spouse/Dependents Tuition Benefit

This benefit is reserved for Wyoming Vietnam veterans, overseas combat veterans, and surviving spouses and dependents. Eligibility is based on residency in Wyoming before enlistment. A special application is required with a copy of DD-214 or DD-215.
