Navigating the Case Western Reserve University Student Information System

The Student Information System (SIS) at Case Western Reserve University serves as the central hub for students, faculty, and staff to manage academic and administrative tasks. Often referred to as Student or PeopleSoft SIS, this system streamlines processes related to student registration, student accounts, academic advisement, and student demographic data.

Core Functions of the SIS

The SIS is the university administrative system used for Student Registration, Student Accounts, Academic Advisement, and Student Demographic Data. As the system of record for student information and the university course catalog, the SIS offers a comprehensive suite of services accessible to all enrolled students and faculty. These services are designed to enhance the academic experience and simplify administrative tasks.

The primary list of supported student services includes:

  • Online Schedule of Classes: Students can browse and search for courses, view course descriptions, and check availability.
  • Online Registration: The SIS allows students to register for courses online, add or drop classes, and manage their course schedules.
  • Academic Requirements Reports: Students can track their progress towards graduation by viewing their academic requirements reports, which outline the courses and credits needed to fulfill their degree requirements.
  • Unofficial Transcripts: Students can access and view their unofficial transcripts, which provide a record of their academic performance.
  • Student Planner: The SIS offers a student planner tool that helps students organize their academic schedules, plan future coursework, and set goals.
  • Financial Account Inquiry: Students can view their financial account information, including tuition charges, payments, and financial aid.
  • Online Payments: The SIS enables students to make online payments for tuition and fees.
  • Authorized Users (Parent Access): Students can grant authorized users, such as parents or guardians, access to specific information in the SIS.
  • Address Maintenance: Students can update their contact information, including their address and phone number, through the SIS.
  • Privacy Settings (FERPA): Students can manage their privacy settings and control the release of their student information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Access and Training

All enrolled students have access to the SIS. All faculty have access to the SIS. New faculty members receive access once they are assigned to a class in the SIS. Staff who support students, faculty, or academic administration may request access to the SIS by filling out the Security Form. It's important to note that training may be required in order to receive access, especially for specific modules.

Training is required in order for staff or faculty to obtain access to the Schedule of Classes module, Admissions module, and certain Enrollment module screens. Schedule of Classes training is held in a classroom format three times per year, or as needed. All other training on the SIS is offered by request.
