Calvin Ridley: From College Star to NFL Standout
Calvin Orin Ridley (born December 20, 1994) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Titans signed Calvin Ridley as an unrestricted free agent early in the 2024 offseason. The 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pounder brings a veteran presence to the receiving corps and is considered by many as one of the best route runners in the NFL.
Early Life and High School Career
Calvin Orin Ridley was born to Colin Ridley and Kay Daniels in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. When he was younger, Ridley played Pop Warner football in the same league as Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown and Ravens cornerback Trayvon Mullen, in the Pompano Beach area of Florida just four miles from the high school he would attend. Ridley attended Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, where he played high school football for the Knights. As a senior (2014), was only able to play three games due to Florida age restriction rules, which doesn't allow anyone over the age of 19 and nine months to be eligible.
The Ridley brothers, including Calvin and his younger brothers, spent parts of their childhood growing up in foster homes in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He says that's when football saved his life. The Ridley brothers were moved to SOS Children's Village in Coconut Creek, Fla - a small complex with 10 houses and around 150 apartments. He used to wake up in the morning and bang on all the doors, rounding up everybody to play football.

Ridley addressed the situation, stating: "I just f***ed up. Period. In a dark moment, I made a stupid mistake. I wasn't trying to cheat the game. That's the thing I want to make clear. At the time, I had been completely away from the team for about a month. I was still just so depressed and angry, and the days were so long."

Recent News
Ridley (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. With Ridley out, look for Elic Ayomanor and Van Jefferson (ankle) -- if available -- to lead the Titans' WR corps versus New England. Chimere Dike and Tyler Lockett also should mix in, as was the case Week 6 when Ridley exited after just six snaps. Ridley's next chance to play will occur Sunday, Oct. 26 against the Colts.
