Unlocking Exclusive Benefits: A Guide to the Cal Poly Alumni Association

Your connection to Cal Poly Pomona extends far beyond graduation. The Cal Poly Alumni Association provides numerous benefits designed to support alumni throughout their lives. From insurance options to networking opportunities, this association aims to foster lifelong connections and provide valuable resources.

Insurance Solutions Tailored for Alumni

The Cal Poly Alumni Association understands the diverse needs of its members and offers a variety of insurance plans at special, member-only rates. These benefits provide coverage that may not be available to the general public, giving alumni access to exclusive savings and plan choices.

Auto & Home Insurance

Alumni have special access to auto and home insurance. Liberty Mutual has partnered with the association to offer alumni exclusive savings on quality insurance plans. Farmers Insurance Choice also provides personalized insurance quotes, allowing alumni to save with automated payments, good driver rewards, and multi-policy discounts.

Health Insurance

Finding the right health insurance can be a daunting task. The Alumni Insurance Program simplifies the process by offering individual and family health insurance plans through its eHealth Marketplace. Alumni can compare coverage from the nation's top health insurance carriers and choose healthcare options that fit their budget. These plans are tailored to meet the specific needs of alumni and their families, ensuring comprehensive coverage and peace of mind.

Life Insurance

Recognizing that one life insurance plan does not fit all, the Alumni Insurance Program offers a range of choices, including three different term life insurance plans with coverage up to $3 million. These plans provide financial security for loved ones in the event of an unexpected passing. Alumni can select the plan that best suits their individual circumstances and financial goals.

Travel Insurance

Protect your travel investment with coverage for trip cancellation, baggage loss, and more. This insurance safeguards against unforeseen circumstances that may disrupt travel plans, ensuring a worry-free experience.

Long Term Disability Insurance

Long Term Disability insurance provides a monthly benefit when your ability to earn an income is interrupted by a covered injury or illness. This coverage offers financial support during challenging times, helping alumni maintain their standard of living while recovering from a disability.

Personal Experiences and Fond Memories

Many alumni cherish their time at Cal Poly and have fond memories of their experiences.

Tawny M., B.S.

Tawny M. recalls that her favorite memory at Cal Poly was Poly Royal each year. Her senior project was a group project called “Festival of Wheels,” a skateboarding fundraising event for Camp Reach for the Stars, a camp for children with cancer. The event was held on the lawn area that is now the Engineering buildings and featured a huge portable skate ramp, professional skaters, bands, food vendors, and more. As a Recreation major, Tawny's role was Volunteer Management. She also spent time at Bulls and enjoyed shopping at Gap, Express, and Structure stores, which are no longer there. Woodstocks was a favorite for pizza, and McLintocks was a preferred spot for breakfast.

Karen C., Principal, Mandarin Chinese, B.S.

Karen C. was a founding member of Running Thunder (athletics spirit club) and has tons of fond memories of all our crazy times. She really enjoyed working as a desk assistant at Sequoia Hall, where she met many lifelong friends. The history of economics was probably her favorite class, taught by Professor Solina Lindahl, who she was glad to learn from again.

Computer Engineering Alumnus, 1995; M.S.

This alumnus worked in the Earth & Soil Science Department for Dr. Brent Hallock, conducting soil erosion and sediment control studies through grant funding. His team presented their findings at a conference of Environmental Professionals. He also traveled to Sacramento and testified at the Senate Committee on higher education for his California Bill project class.

The Value of Learn by Doing

As a professor at Cal Poly, one individual fully embraces Learn by Doing in their pedagogy. This philosophy is central to the Cal Poly experience, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for success in their chosen fields. The CPAA is committed to fostering lifelong connections between students, community members, faculty/staff members, departments, colleges, and the University overall. Understanding the value the CPAA brings to our students (past and present) and is eager to play a part in cultivating these meaningful relationships!
