Navigating Boston University's Central Campus: A Comprehensive Guide

Boston University's central campus, sprawling nearly two miles along Commonwealth Avenue, is a vibrant hub of activity. Whether you're visiting for a meeting, a campus tour, or to attend an information session, this guide will provide essential tips and tricks for navigating the campus and the surrounding city.

Locating Events & Conference

If you're visiting the main office for a meeting or site visit, Events & Conference is located at 925 Commonwealth Avenue, within the Agganis Arena building. The direct entrance to the office is along Agganis Way.

Utilizing the Terrier Transit App

Navigating Boston and the BU campus is simplified with the Boston University's Terrier Transit app. This essential tool provides turn-by-turn directions for walking, transit, and bicycling, including real-time arrival information for the BU Shuttle, local buses, and the subway. Download Terrier Transit for real-time arrival information and trip-planning assistance.

Exploring Boston University Maps

Boston University Maps is a fully up-to-date, online resource for all buildings, parking lots, and locations on campus. The BU Maps system also provides an accessible campus map, directing you to audible crosswalk signals, accessible building entrances, lactation rooms, and all-gender bathrooms.

Parking Information

Due to Boston University’s urban setting, parking is limited, and visitors are encouraged to utilize public transportation whenever possible. However, should parking be necessary, several options are available.

Accessible Parking

Those with a state-issued disability placard or license plate may park free-of-charge at any on-street metered parking space. Accessible spaces are also available in BU parking facilities for those with the appropriate state-issued credentials, though a discount is not offered for parking in these facilities.

University Lots

University lots are available for daily or overnight guest parking. Overnight parking is typically available at Lot B: Langsam Garage. If parking wasn't pre-arranged as part of your program, you can self-pay at the garage.

On-Street Parking

On-street parking is also available on certain streets. Be sure to check local signage for restrictions and payment requirements.

Public Transportation Options

Boston’s buses and subway, known as “The T,” offer an efficient alternative to navigating Boston traffic.

The Green Line

The B Branch of the Green Line has multiple stops on the Charles River Campus, providing convenient access to various locations. It also offers connections to other subway lines, including those that go to South Station (Amtrak and bus station) and Logan Airport. Check the MBTA site for maps and schedules and learn more about where to pick up a Charlie Card or Ticket.

Campus Tours and Information Sessions

Boston University welcomes visitors to experience the vibrancy of its campus. In-person tours and information sessions are hosted where you can meet current students and explore the university grounds. Registration is required for all events. If you are unable to secure a reservation or are on campus after hours, you are welcome to view campus through our mobile walking tour.

Information sessions are offered year-round, but campus tours are not available when BU classes are not in session (much of December and January, Spring Break (in March) and May). Campus tours enter several buildings on campus, but residence halls are not included.

Important Considerations

Only trained service dogs are permitted in our building and on campus tours.
