Students are only eligible for one New American University Scholarship. These scholarships are only available to first-time, first-year students entering ASU the semester directly after high school graduation and are available to full-time, on-campus students registered for iCourses and ASU Sync.
New American University Scholarship Program
ASU's New American University Scholarship Program is the flagship merit scholarship program sponsored by the university itself. All first-time, first-year undergraduate students who matriculate to ASU directly after graduating from high school and attend in-person classes are eligible to be considered for this scholarship, awarded based on information submitted in your application for admission. We do not recalculate academic information. ASU merit scholarships are awarded based on a combination of your high school GPA in core competencies, the number of those competencies you have completed or have in progress, and the degree program, residency and campus that you're admitted to.
Test-Optional Policy and Scholarship Eligibility
While ACT or SAT scores are not required for award eligibility, providing them may lead to increased scholarship awards. If you are offered a New American University scholarship, any funds you have earned through RaiseMe micro-scholarships will be included in the total ASU New American University scholarship you are offered.

Scholarship Amounts and Renewal Criteria
The scholarship estimator now reflects fall 2026 scholarship amounts, and ASU is automatically reviewing and awarding New American University Scholarships to admitted students. Renewal criteria for the award can be found at students.asu.edu/scholarships/renewal. The ASU Commitment Scholarship has the same renewal requirements as the New American University Scholarship.
Targeted Scholarship Opportunities
National Merit Scholars
Arizona National Merit Finalists are eligible for ASU's New American University National Scholar award of $15,000 per year, renewable for an additional three years, worth $60,000 over four years at ASU. To receive the National Scholar award, you are required to select ASU as your first-choice institution with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by May 1, upon that, ASU will upgrade your award, replacing any previous New American University merit scholarship.
Nonresident National Merit Finalists are offered a $17,500 national scholar award if named a National Merit Finalist, required to select ASU as your first choice institution with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by May 1 and have been admitted and ultimately enroll in Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. This award will replace any previous New American University award and is not stackable with other New American University awards. If you decide not to apply or enroll at Barrett, you will still receive your original New American University award from ASU. This is a $17,500 per year award for a total of eight semesters, with a value of $70,000 over four years.
National Recognition Program Awardees
Arizona National Recognition Awardees, as a College Board National Recognition Program Awardee, are eligible to receive ASU's New American University National Scholar award of $10,000 per year upon admission, renewable for an additional three years, worth $40,000 over four years at ASU.
Nonresident National Recognition awardees, as a College Board National Recognition Program Awardee, are eligible for ASU’s New American University National Scholar award, a $17,500 per year award, and to be eligible you must be admitted and enrolled at Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. This award will replace any previous New American University award and is not stackable with other New American University awards. This is a $17,500 per year award for a total of eight semesters, with a value of $70,000 over four years.

Barrett, The Honors College Scholarships

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program
Students who are residents of Western states neighboring Arizona can qualify for the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program, which offers nonresident students from select states the opportunity to enroll at ASU at an affordable cost. Alaska, California, Guam, Hawaii, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington are just a few of the states that are eligible for this incredible tuition opportunity. The WUE tuition rate is available to students studying at the Downtown Phoenix, West Campus, and Polytechnic Campus locations from these states. The Western Undergraduate Exchange Program enables scholars at ASU from states like New Mexico, Utah, and California to earn their degrees while paying 150% of in-state tuition.
Arizona Flinn Scholars Program
The Arizona Flinn Scholars program is a highly competitive merit scholarship awarded to Arizona resident undergrads who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership in their time in high school and plan to attend one of the three state universities. The Flinn Scholars program can provide a full ride to qualifying Arizona residents and covers the full cost of tuition, fees, housing, and meals. In addition, Flinn Scholars receive funding for an international summer seminar during the summer after freshman year and for one or more additional study abroad opportunities. Test scores are required to apply; however, there is no minimum SAT or ACT score that you need to have to qualify for a Flinn Scholarship.
