APIA Scholars provides scholarships to underserved APIA students with a special focus on those who:

Citizenship: Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident (green card holder) of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply.
Academic Standing: Be a student currently attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university in the fall. APIA Scholars offers a wide range of scholarship opportunities for students currently attending or planning to attend 2-year as well as 4-year colleges.
Degree Level: Students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree or higher are not eligible to apply. However, continuing education students, vocational school students, and students attending or planning to attend a community college are eligible, as are those pursuing or having received a GED.

The Application Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

The APIA Scholarship application is open annually from mid-November to mid-January. For example, the 2026-2027 application was open from Saturday, November 15, 2025, until Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 5 pm Eastern Time. The multi-phase selection process commences after the application deadline.

The great news for applicants is that they don’t need to worry about applying for these scholarships separately - one application covers all APIA scholarships.

Initial Application

Applicants simply need to provide responses to questions asked in the APIA Scholarship application form. The initial application does not require any supporting documents.

Subsequent Steps

Applicants who advance to the next stage of the selection process may be asked to complete an additional form. Award recipients will be asked to complete a Scholar Confirmation Form that requires submitting a transcript and college/financial information. If a selected applicant does not provide the requested information during the scholarship confirmation process, they will no longer to be eligible to receive a scholarship.

We understand that most first-time college students may not currently know where they will end up enrolling.
Financial Information: This section assesses the applicant's financial need, including information about dependency status for the FAFSA, adjusted gross income, household size, and overall financial status.
Extracurricular Activities and Work Experience: Applicants have the opportunity to share information for up to five of their extracurricular activities, work experiences, and/or family responsibilities during their academic journey, in order of importance to them, along with a short description of the impact that each one has had on them. We want to hear about what makes you unique. We understand life circumstances like illness, income restraints or childcare responsibilities etc., may restrict opportunities such as extracurricular activities. If you have completed the Common Application, it may be helpful to refer to those activity descriptions as a starting point for completing this section.
Essay: The essay is a crucial component of the application, providing applicants with an opportunity to showcase their personality, experiences, and aspirations.

The essay prompt for the APIA Scholarship typically asks applicants to reflect on their experiences, identity, or community and how these factors have shaped their interactions with the world. The prompt also asks how the APIA Scholarship would support their continued growth as they pursue their future goals.

This is a two-part question. Please ensure that you answer every part of the question. Be specific and provide examples. The essay should be well-written, thoughtful, and reflective of the applicant's unique perspective. While there may be a word limit (e.g., 500 words), a minimum word count (e.g., 250 words) is often required. Plagiarism or any form of academic dishonesty, including the improper use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to generate content, may result in disqualification from the scholarship application process or the revocation of any awarded scholarship.
