He has provided scholarships over a ten-year period, expressing gratitude for the opportunities he received. “It’s more than I ever dreamed that I never dreamed I would live,” Glenn said, reflecting on his journey from humble beginnings. "The Champion" Newspaper: A Voice for DeKalb County
In 1991, an alumna co-founded “The Champion” newspaper and served as its publisher. This newspaper was the first black-owned newspaper in the state of Georgia to serve DeKalb County. The newspaper continues to hold membership in the Georgia Press Association (GPA).
Theatrical and Film Contributions
Several alumni have made notable contributions to the world of theatre and film. Thomas Meloncon's "Diary of Black Men" was directed by Dr. Billy C. Black Auditorium.
Alfred C. Johnson: From Albany State to the Silver Screen
Alfred C. Johnson embarked on his acting career as an agent. He honed his skills on the local circuit before landing co-star and guest star roles on hit television shows. He has worked alongside notable actors such as Sam Anderson, Scott Caan and Alex O'Laughlin. Johnson has also appeared in films with Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton. He also starred with Michael Ealy, Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall in the thriller "When the Bough Breaks" (2016). Johnson performed in lead roles in three internationally released films. He played Collins, the security goon opposite Keesha Sharp , Jamie Bamber and Joseph Gatt. He has also portrayed a chef at one of the top restaurants in New York. opposite Kristen Renton (Sons of Anarchy). He is also involved in writing and producing as well. Johnson has also worked on projects involving artificial intelligence and mind control. His work has been showcased in major cities and streamed on Tubi and Prime Video. Johnson has projects in the development pipeline as an actor, producer, and director. Johnson has amassed over 70 TV and film credits, showcasing his versatility as an actor, performing stunts, producer, director and as voiceover artist credits.
