Unlocking Tradition: A Guide to Aggie Ring Scholarships

The Aggie Ring, a symbol of accomplishment and the worldwide Aggie Network, stands as one of Texas A&M's oldest and most revered traditions. Recognizing the significance of this emblem, The Association of Former Students’ Board of Directors established the Aggie Ring Scholarship Program in October 2009. This program ensures that eligible students have the financial resources to obtain their Aggie Ring.

The Aggie Ring Scholarship Program

The Aggie Ring Scholarship Program was created by The Association of Former Students’ Board of Directors in October 2009. Former students and friends of Texas A&M can contribute to this initiative, ensuring that financial resources are available for students to acquire their Aggie Rings. Students apply for this scholarship through the University Scholarship Application.

Application Process and Timeline

The University Scholarship Application is the gateway to the Aggie Ring Scholarship. It opens on October 15th and closes on February 1st each year. Awards are applied to the next academic year. To be considered, students must answer the Aggie Ring questions within the University Scholarship Application. Scholarships & Financial Aid reviews applications to determine eligibility to order their Aggie Ring during one of the three presentation times each year. The 2013-2014 Aggie Ring Scholarship application deadline has expired. Complete the University Scholarship Application online between October 15, 2013 - February 1, 2014. Scholarships for the 2025-26 Ring Days were awarded in May 2025. Scholarships applied for from Oct. 15, 2025, through Feb. Log in and complete the University Scholarship Application between Oct. 15, 2025, and Feb.

Scholarship Availability and Competition

Due to limited funding, Aggie Ring scholarships are competitive and not guaranteed. Approximately 5500 students apply each year. Association donors typically provide around 1,400 academic scholarships and 500 Aggie Ring Scholarships annually.

University Scholarship Application

Currently enrolled A&M students can complete the University Scholarship Application (uwide.tamu.edu) between October and February to be considered for these and other scholarships for the next year. In 2022-23, the application window was Oct. 15, 2022-Feb.

Scholarships for Prospective Freshmen and Transfer Students

Prospective A&M freshmen and transfers can apply through the scholarship portion of the Apply Texas college application: tamu.edu/apply. Many Association and A&M Club/Aggie Moms’ Club scholarships are awarded based on this application.

Local A&M Clubs and Aggie Moms’ Clubs

Your nearest A&M Club or Aggie Moms’ Club might have scholarships that they award through their own application processes rather than through the A&M process. These may go to local high school seniors headed to A&M, or in some cases to already-enrolled students at A&M. A&M Clubs: tx.ag/Clubs.

Constituent Networks

These organizations are part of The Association of Former Students and may offer scholarships, such as the Texas Aggie Bar Association's scholarships for Aggies heading to law schools, and the Texas A&M Hispanic Network's scholarships for freshmen, current students, graduate students, senior boots and Aggie Rings.

Aggie Ring Loans

Students may consider applying for an Aggie Ring Loan through the Short Term Loan Office. Check your Ring Eligibility online before applying for a Ring loan. If eligible, complete the Short Term Loan application online between August 23 - September 2, 2013. There is a $10 origination charge for Ring Loans. College Station campus - visit the Short-Term Loan Office to sign your Promissory Note. Galveston campus - visit the Cashier's Office to sign your Promissory Note. It may take up to 10 business days for you to receive the funds. The funds will not automatically apply towards your Aggie Ring. You must contact the Aggie Ring Office to pay and finalize your order.

Payment Plans

It is recommended to set aside an amount each month to go towards your Aggie Ring purchase. Full payment is due at the time of order. If eligible for your Aggie Ring, complete the STL application prior to your Ring appointment or submitting your order online. It may take up to 10 business days to receive the funds in your designated bank account. Ring loan funds will not automatically apply to your Aggie Ring.

The Impact of Giving

Former students and friends of Texas A&M can establish an endowed Aggie Ring Scholarship with a minimum gift of $40,000, which may be given over a five-year period. Upon receipt of the initial gift, the donor will also have the opportunity to be involved in the scholarship recipient’s Aggie Ring Day and will be invited to the annual scholarship dinner hosted each spring by The Association of Former Students. Gifts of any amount under $40,000 may be made to the general fund for Aggie Ring Scholarships using the online giving form.

In 2024, 505 students were impacted through 318 endowed Aggie Ring Scholarships and a general scholarship fund for Aggie Rings. We invite you to support Aggie Ring Scholarships and help ensure that the Aggie Ring is available to every Aggie who has earned the right to wear one. “The Aggie Ring is a visual symbol of accomplishment and recognizable symbol of the Aggie family.

The Enduring Symbolism of the Aggie Ring

The Aggie Ring is the most visible symbol of the worldwide Aggie Network and one of the oldest and most revered traditions of Texas A&M. In 1933, the modern design was finalized. Cannon, saber and rifle symbolize that Texans fought for their land and are determined to defend their homeland.
