Dallas College has an open-door admissions policy. You can apply to Dallas College even if you don’t have a high school diploma or a GED certificate. No matter what your current circumstances are, we can work with you to develop a plan to help you achieve your educational and career goals. All students must complete the application process. A new application is required for all new students and for former students who stopped out for one year or more. Detailed steps to complete the admissions process are listed below.

Once you have applied for admission, you should plan to complete pre-advising, determine if you meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, connect with an advisor and participate in an information session, and register for classes. Every student brings something unique to our community that encompasses achievements, experiences and viewpoints. All applicants are reviewed individually and holistically. Information is provided in optional supplemental materials.

Admission for Students Without a High School Diploma or GED

Dallas College's commitment to accessibility is evident in its policy that allows individuals without a high school diploma or GED certificate to apply. The college emphasizes working with students to develop personalized plans to help them achieve their educational and career aspirations.

Dual Credit for High School Students

If you have completed your junior year in an accredited high school, you may be admitted upon written recommendation of the high school principal. You may take no more than two courses each semester.

To be eligible, applicants need to provide the following:

Automatic Admission for Top Texas High School Graduates

As Texas law requires, students will be automatically admitted to UT Dallas as first-time freshmen if they graduate in the top 10% of their class from an accredited Texas high school and successfully earn the Distinguished Level of Achievement.

International Student Admission Requirements

Dallas College must comply with federal law to enroll international students as provided in FB (LEGAL) and (LOCAL) and as guided by the US Department of Homeland Security via the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). An applicant seeking F-1 admission must visit the Dallas College international student admissions webpage for details on requirements and how to apply.

English Proficiency

International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following methods:

TOEFL: Provide a TOEFL score of a 71 or higher on the internet-based version.
IELTS: Provide an IELTS overall score of 6.0 or higher.
Duolingo English Test: Provide a Duolingo English Test score of 105 or higher. Dallas College will receive your certified results within 48 hours of the test session when you request to send your results to Dallas College.
ACCUPLACER ESL Placement Test: Take the ACCUPLACER ESL Placement test. Results will be evaluated by Dallas College ESOL faculty/international staff to determine if elementary proficiency is met.
Prior Academic Studies: You've completed a minimum one term of full time post-secondary academic studies in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand where English proficiency is required for admission.
Citizenship: You are a citizen of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Belgium, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Islands, christmas Island, Cook Island, Dominica, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Jersey, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Island, Federated State of Micronesia, Montserrat, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Island, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Pitcairn Island, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Sint Maarten, Solomon Island, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.

Note: TSI may still be required even if the required English proficiency test scores are submitted.

Additional Requirements for International Students

Passport: Provide a copy of your passport.
Medical Records:
- Provide official written medical proof of freedom from tuberculosis through either a negative Mantoux tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray that was given in the United States within the last year.
- Provide official written medical proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination. Bacterial meningitis vaccination is required for anyone who is 21 years of age or younger.
SEVP Status: Must be in good/active standing with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Dallas College does not assist with F1 visa reinstatement.
Transcripts: graduate-level coursework. Have an OFFICIAL transcript on file from the current SEVP-certified school with an established grade point average (GPA) and/or proof of first session completion.
Health Insurance: Dallas College strongly recommends that international students obtain health insurance for the duration of their studies.
Non-Credit Programs: Dallas College presently has no active non-credit Vocational or Technical Education (M-1) programs in which international students may be admitted.

Residency Requirements

The determination of residency classification for tuition purposes by the colleges in the DCCCD is governed by statutes enacted by the Texas Legislature and regulations developed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. It is the responsibility of the Admissions Office to determine residency classification based on the information that is submitted on the admissions application. The Admissions Office reserves the right to request additional information in order to comply with State of Texas residency requirements prior to enrollment and certification date of the semester. The applicant has the burden of proof to show by clear and convincing evidence that residence or domicile, as appropriate, has been established and maintained.

Dallas County (In-District): A person currently residing in Dallas County who has been granted Texas residency status.
Out-of-District: A Texas resident who does not reside in Dallas County during the semester(s) student is enrolled. who has not lived in Texas for the past 12 months. Many factors affect residency status. A dependent whose parent has established or maintained domicile in Texas not less than 12 months prior to census date of the academic semester. An individual whose initial purpose for moving to Texas is to attend an institution of higher education as a full-time student will be presumed not to have the required intent to make Texas his or her domicile; however, the presumption may be overruled by clear and convincing evidence.

Dallas County residency cannot be determined until Texas residency status is established. Once Texas residency has been established, classification of in-district (Dallas County resident) or out-of-district is based on where the student physically resides. If a student is classified as a Texas (in-state) resident and resides in Dallas County, they are eligible for the in-district tuition rate.

A waiver may be granted each academic year to students who reside outside of Dallas County, but who own property in Dallas County subject to the Community College Ad Valorem Tax. If a student meets in-state requirements but resides outside of Dallas County, the student will pay the out-of-district tuition rate. citizen to qualify for resident status.

If an applicant wishes to be reclassified, they must contact the Admissions Office of the college they are attending. The Admissions Office reserves the right to request additional information in order to comply with the State of Texas residency requirements.
