Partnership with Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society founded in 1924, partners with W. W. Norton to provide its student and alumni members with unique internship opportunities. This collaboration offers a pathway for Sigma Tau Delta members to gain experience in educational publishing. Sigma Tau Delta has the opportunity to submit up to four priority candidates. The priority candidates will receive an interview with W. W. Norton staff.
Priority Consideration
Sigma Tau Delta candidates will be given priority consideration for an internship interview at the editorial department of the W. W. Norton. To apply for the priority application, eligible student members must complete the Sigma Tau Delta W. W. Norton & Company Internship Priority Consideration application through AwardSpring. Sigma Tau Delta will forward application materials for our final selected priority candidates to W. W. Norton. Applicants who are not selected for Sigma Tau Delta priority consideration may still apply directly through W. W. Norton. The final internship offers will be made by W. W. Norton. Sigma Tau Delta priority members who are awarded an internship with W. W. Norton are required to write a follow-up blog about their experience.
Eligibility and Requirements
Interns must be eligible to work in the United States. Norton does not complete any paperwork for colleges, universities, or other entities related to for-credit internships or eligibility to work in the US.
When applying, it is important to ensure your cover letter makes reference to the skills and qualities of a W. W. Norton intern. Applicants should describe their service to, and involvement in, Sigma Tau Delta and how it prepares them for this internship. Please describe experiences (courses, extra-curricular activities, Sigma Tau Delta leadership and service, and work experience) that prepare you for editorial work in university textbook publishing and the different responsibilities of an editorial assistant for textbooks about rhetoric, composition, and literature education. Please discuss how working for a college/university textbook publisher in the editorial department of W. W. Composition, Communication, and Literature Editorial Internship
Sigma Tau Delta is partnering with the W. W. Norton College Division to offer Sigma Tau Delta student and alumni members the opportunity to gain experience in educational publishing through a 12-week Composition, Communication, and Literature Editorial internship program. This program serves to introduce interns to the world of educational publishing, which focuses on creating quality textbooks and learning resources for undergraduate students. Interns receive valuable hands-on experience with developing print manuscripts, ebooks, and digital instructional resources, as well as the day-to-day work of an editorial assistant, and opportunities to network with W. W. Norton staff.

Trade Editorial Internship
W. W. Norton sometimes offers Trade Editorial Internships. For example, the Trade Editorial Internship (Sep 2025) is an on-site opportunity in Manhattan, New York. The salary is USD 17 / Hour. The application period for the Sep 2025 internship opens and closes in August 2025, with the internship starting in late September 2025.
Study fields that may be relevant include Creative Arts, Communication, Media Studies, Creative Writing, and Journalism. A Bachelor's degree or higher is required. No prior experience is required.

Intern Responsibilities and Experiences
Interns receive valuable hands-on experience with developing print manuscripts, ebooks, and digital instructional resources, as well as the day-to-day work of an editorial assistant, and opportunities to network with W. W. Norton staff. Interns gain exposure to various aspects of the publishing process. Specific work hours are flexible, but interns are expected to work three or four days per week.
One former intern enjoyed being able to work closely with a team and also work on tasks individually. Their tasks involved copy editing and proofreading, in addition to learning all about books. The location (Bryant Park) was great too. Their supervisors were super kind and gave great feedback.
