Dipplin: Comprehensive Guide to Movesets, Builds, and Competitive Play
Dipplin, the evolved form of Applin introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, presents a unique Grass/Dragon-type Pokémon with interesting abilities and strategic potential. This guide explores Dipplin's capabilities, optimal movesets, and effective builds for competitive play. Dipplin is two creatures in one Pokémon. Its evolution was triggered by a special apple grown only in one place. The head sticking out belongs to the fore-wyrm, while the tail belongs to the core-wyrm.
Dipplin's Key Features
Dipplin coat their apples with syrup produced within their bodies. The head and tail appear to belong to two separate creatures; both help each other out from within their shared apple.
Dipplin is a green worm-like Pokémon that lives in a red apple spewing a similarly colored mixture. Its head greatly resembles the head of Applin, but with a long, thin protuberance in the middle of its eyestalks. Dipplin has the ability to produce a sweet syrup from its body. This syrup can be used to beguile opponents.
Understanding Dipplin's Design Inspiration
Much like the rest of its evolutionary line, Dipplin is based on the trope of worms in apples, with the added pun on the wyrm, a type of dragon. Additionally, it is based on the candied apple, a type of apple which is coated in sugar and sold in festivals. It may also take inspiration from depictions of the serpent who tells Eve in the biblical Book of Genesis to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and evil, the fruit of which is often depicted as an apple due to a mistranslation in the Latin Vulgate.
How to Evolve Applin into Dipplin
To evolve Applin into Dipplin, you need to use a Syrupy Apple, which is a new item you can obtain in Kitakami. Syrupy Apples can be bought in a shack for ₽500 in the Mossfell Confluence. Level up the Grass/Dragon-type Dipplin while knowing the move Dragon Cheer to evolve it into Hydrapple in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) The Indigo Disk DLC.

Abilities
Dipplin's best Ability is Supersweet Syrup, which lowers the Evasion of all Pokemon on the field. Dipplin's Gimmick comes from its Supersweet Syrup Evasion debuff gimmick.
Held Item
The best Held Item is Eviolite, which was found to work with Dipplin. Dipplin, though decently bulky with Eviolite, will be unable to take repeated super-effective hits.
