Exploring Opportunities at West Shore Educational Service District
The West Shore Career-Technical Education District provides a range of career-focused programs for students from Bay Village, Lakewood, Rocky River, and Westlake school districts. These programs offer multiple pathways to full-time or part-time employment, college, technical school, or military service. West Shore does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities, and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
Programs for 11th and 12th Grade Students
West Shore offers two-year programs beginning in the 11th grade.
Introduction to West Shore for 10th Grade Students
At Lakewood High School, 10th-grade students can attend the West Shore Sophomore Assembly in January to learn more about the programs offered.
Shadowing and Tours
Students are given the opportunity to sign up for a scheduled tour to shadow program teachers, tour the classrooms, and ask questions.
Application Process
The West Shore application process for Bay Village, Rocky River, and Westlake 10th-grade students begins in January when West Shore visits each school. Interested students are then provided the opportunity to visit West Shore Career-Tech for a tour day. Students from Bay Village, Rocky River, and Westlake High Schools attend West Shore for a 4-period block. If your program is fewer than 4 periods, you may select elective course(s) for the remainder of your time.

Guidance Counselor Appointments
Students and parents interested in learning more about programs offered should make an appointment with their RRHS guidance counselor no later than January of sophomore year.
Career Pathways
Within the program clusters, career pathways help students prepare for a wide range of educational opportunities. Career-focused instruction gives students opportunities to explore careers through work-based learning. Career pathways also enable students to choose courses and experiences that will help them prepare for postsecondary or higher education. Career pathways prepare students with a broad range of academic, employability, and technical skills. Rapidly changing job markets and new technologies require individuals to have broad-based skills that transfer to a wide variety of work settings, as well as high levels of thinking and interpersonal skills. Career pathways include instruction that supports meaningful learning. Developments in the field of cognitive science suggest learning is most effective when it takes place in a real-life context. Career pathways instruction provides important workplace context that deepens student understanding of both the academic and technical content being taught.
