Gaining Admission to Wabash College: Acceptance Rate and Requirements

Wabash College, a small, private institution for men located in Crawfordsville, Indiana, is known for its rigorous academic environment and focus on developing leaders. Acceptance Rate: A Moderately Selective Institution

The acceptance rate at Wabash College stands at 63.3%, indicating that the college is moderately selective. Strong academic performance will almost guarantee you admission. Scoring at a 1166 SAT or above will already give you a great shot at getting in.

Academic Performance: GPA and Coursework

GPA is a very important academic factor. The average GPA at Wabash College is 3.52, which requires you to be around average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.52, you'll need a higher SAT score to compensate and show that you're prepared to take on college academics.

High School Curriculum

Each applicant is expected to have earned a secondary school diploma from a school approved by a state or regional accrediting agency before enrolling at the College. Admission may be possible without all of the recommended courses; however an applicant may be required to provide an additional written statement or interview with members of the Admissions Committee.

Standardized Testing: Test-Optional Policy

Wabash College practices test optional admission. Applicants are not required to submit standardized test scores as part of their application for admission. Students who choose not to submit standardized test scores will still be considered for merit-based scholarships. This review will place additional weight on the rigor of the applicant's high school curriculum as well as his performance in his college preparatory courses.

SAT and ACT Scores (If Submitted)

Half the applicants admitted to Wabash College who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1060 and 1270 or an ACT score of 23 and 28. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.

SAT: The 25th percentile SAT score is 1070, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1268. In other words, a 1070 places you below average, while a 1268 will move you up to above average.
ACT: The 25th percentile ACT score is 23, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 28. The average ACT score at Wabash College is 26.

If you feel your SAT or ACT score represents you well as a student, submit them. If you can achieve a high SAT/ACT score, the rest of your application essentially doesn't matter. You still need to meet the rest of the application requirements, and your GPA shouldn't be too far off from the school average of 3.52. But you won't need dazzling extracurriculars and breathtaking letters of recommendation to get in.

Opportunities for International Students

There is often concern that the Admissions Review Committee will not be aware of how rigorous a foreign school’s grading system or national test scoring might be. Be assured that the international admissions staff is well informed about various national educational systems. Still, it is helpful when possible for international students to include a school description or grading scale with their application. On average, the admitted international students were in the top of their respective classes with better than a 1200+ on the SAT (if submitted), 85+ on the TOEFL IBT, 6.5+ on the IELTS, or 115+ on the Duolingo. Because of our small student population, Wabash enrolls approximately 25 international students from a pool of over 500 international applications. The process is highly competitive and only complete files are considered. Applicants with a complete file on record by January 15 will receive decision notification with our Regular Application group by January 18.

Financial Aid for International Students

International applicants with a complete application are automatically considered for the Presidential International Scholarship. For maximum consideration for this merit-based scholarship, an applicant must have a complete application on record by January 15 and present outstanding academic records, high standardized test scores, strong letters of recommendation, and a thoughtful essay. Admitted international applicants will also have an opportunity to receive the Earn More Scholarship. More information about this scholarship will be given to students after admission into the College. If awarded the Early Decision Scholarship, you are not eligible for the Earn More Scholarship. These awards are granted through a competitive process and are renewable for up to eight semesters provided the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress. The Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) will be sent to you by the international admissions team after you have accepted the offer of admission, paid the enrollment deposit, and have submitted the required financial documents that meet governmental requirements. You will then pay the SEVIS fee and schedule an F-1 student visa appointment with the nearest US embassy or consulate. International students should arrive to campus one day before International Student Orientation. This generally means that students will be arriving on campus around the middle of August.
