Comprehensive Guide to UVA Student Ticket Discounts and Benefits
The University of Virginia (UVA) offers a wide array of ticket discounts and benefits to its students, faculty, staff, and alumni, enhancing their access to athletic events, arts performances, and other local attractions. This guide provides a detailed overview of these opportunities, ensuring that UVA community members can take full advantage of the available perks.
Athletic Event Tickets
Free Admission for Students
All undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students who have paid the University’s Regular Session Comprehensive Fee are granted free admission to all regular season home athletic events, excluding men’s basketball. Students paying special session fees who want access to ticket opportunities can pay the Athletics portion of the Mandatory Fees or purchase tickets at the Athletics Ticket Office.
Football Games
To gain admission to football games, students present a physical valid UVA student ID card at any of the Scott Stadium gates for the ticket takers to scan upon entry. The designated UVA student section is located in portions of Sections 101-105 (East Lower Level) and 501-503 (East Upper Level). Students may also sit on the grass hillside behind the North end zone.
UVA students may purchase Student Guest tickets for all regular season home games through their UVA ticketing account. Ticket prices vary based upon the game. The capacity for student admissions and Student Guest tickets for home football games at Scott Stadium is 13,000. Once 13,000 students and Student Guest ticket holders have entered Scott Stadium, no additional students will be admitted to the stadium.
Men's Basketball Games
Students utilize their SHOTS student ticket account to request tickets for men’s basketball games. Specific ticket request periods are set for students to have the opportunity to obtain tickets to home games. Each student may request 1 ticket for their own personal use. Should the demand for any game exceed the supply of available tickets, a lottery will be held to determine which students will have the opportunity to claim tickets to that game. Each student requesting a ticket during the specified request period will receive 1 entry into the lottery.

Tickets not awarded to students (if available) will be made available during an On Demand period to students who were not awarded a ticket. Sabre Points will be used to determine the assignment of entry groups for men’s basketball. Students must claim their tickets the day prior to game day to avoid losing Sabre Points. Students who claim their ticket the day before, but before tip-off on game day will lose one Sabre Point.
Student seats are located in Sections 101-105, 116-119 and 301-302; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis within these sections. Students' entry time at John Paul Jones Arena is based upon their assigned group. UVA students who have paid the student activity fee will have the opportunity to purchase up to three (3) Student Guest tickets for select home men’s basketball games. Student Guest tickets are only available during the On Demand phase if students have not fully claimed the allotment of tickets for each game. Guest tickets will only be available for purchase online at UVAShots.com. No away game tickets are available through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office.
Other Sports
Students may enter soccer, lacrosse, and baseball games by scanning their physical student ID at the Klöckner Stadum/Disharoon Park main gate, located on Copeley Road across the street from the University Hall parking lot. Students must present a valid physical student ID that is in their name for entry. Students that do not posses in hand a valid physical student ID upon entry will be directed to the box office. Screenshots of student ID cards or providing the nine digit ID number to the ticket taker will not be accepted for entry. Student guests may only enter with the student.
Bowl Games and NCAA Tournament
For Football bowl game and NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games, approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s ticket allotment will be held for Virginia students to purchase after internal department needs are satisfied. Virginia students will request tickets online through the SHOTS system. If demand exceeds supply, a lottery will be held.
Special Offers
Occasionally, UVA Athletics provides special offers to the community. For example, each household could receive up to four free tickets to the Virginia Cavaliers’ football season opener. These complimentary tickets are typically available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligible students include undergraduate students in any school; graduate students in any school, including Medical, Law, and Darden students; and all students enrolled full-time through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
UVA students can reserve a free ticket up until 24 hours before an event or when the allocation of complimentary tickets is exhausted.
