Introduction: Welcome to the Trojan Family

Welcome Trojans Orientation marks your official enrollment in the university and the beginning of your USC journey! It’s a hybrid experience designed to connect you and your family to the university through inclusive experiences that inform and enrich your transition into USC. Orientation helps educate and support all new students and their families as they begin their USC journey.

Who Should Participate?

Welcome Trojans Orientation is tailored for all incoming freshmen. Families are an important part of the transition to college life, and parents and guests are encouraged to attend. The programming is hybrid-offered both online and in person to all reserved guests. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to participate in orientation alongside their students.

Signing Up for Orientation: A Step-by-Step Guide

To register for orientation:

  1. Activate your USC Net ID: Seven business days after submitting your Enrollment Commitment, you will be able to activate your NET ID.
  2. Log on to your account at my.sc.edu, click the “Admissions” tab, then select “Orientation Services.” From there, choose “Columbia” from the drop-down menu and follow the on-screen instructions. All reservations for students and families are made online at my.sc.edu. Use your USC ID and password to log in to the Orientation Portal. at apply.sc.edu/status. claim your account at myaccount.sc.edu.
  3. Ensure payment is received, including the $130 fee per family/supporter attending. Note that registration is not complete until payment is received.

Orientation Timing and Structure

Welcome Trojans Orientation is a hybrid experience, comprising both online and on-campus components.

  • Fall Students: Orientation programming for FALL students takes place in the summer prior to the start of school, beginning online in late May and continuing through August. Students will be able to reserve a specific course registration date and time when they receive their invitation to orientation.
  • Spring Students: Orientation programming for SPRING students takes place online beginning in October, with an opportunity to attend an in-person event during the summer. All specific dates and times will be available in your orientation invitation. We will offer an in-person program for students and guests in July for spring students who wish to come to campus prior to the start of their fall plans. This one-day event will be held exclusively for spring students to meet each other and see the campus.

What to Expect: A Hybrid Experience

USC Welcome Trojans Orientation offers a true hybrid experience for students and their families. In addition, students have the option to meet other students through online or on-campus events. Fall admits and their families also have the option to participate in full-day, on-campus events at the USC University Park Campus. These events allow students and parents to experience the USC campus firsthand and meet other members of the Trojan Family.

The Trojan Engagement Center: Your Virtual Hub

The Trojan Engagement Center is your central hub for webinars, on-demand videos, virtual student services fairs, and much, much more! You and your reserved guests will be able to access the engagement center starting in May. Plan to visit it frequently throughout the summer as you prepare for your first semester at USC. Academic Advisement and Course Registration

All students complete Academic Advisement online prior to registering for courses. As part of your reservation for orientation, you will select an online Course Registration date and time. Course Registration includes your first semester of courses only. All registration times are listed in Pacific time. While courses are made available so that all students can register for a full course load, this does not guarantee that you will always get your first-choice courses. We recommend planning two or three alternative schedules. There is no need to reach out to your academic department at this time.

What sets USC Welcome Trojans apart, though, are the special features designed to prepare you not only for your first semester of classes, but for the orientation process itself.

Guest Access and Participation

You must make a Welcome Trojans reservation to participate in orientation programming. You will be able to add a maximum of two guests to your Welcome Trojans reservation. Reservations are required for all guests. All reserved guests receive access to the Trojan Engagement Center. If you are attending an On-Campus Orientation event, your guests are welcome to participate.

Accommodation Requests

Extended time for placement exams: If necessary, you may request extended time for Math and Chemistry placement exams when making your Welcome Trojans reservation. All other accommodation requests during Welcome Trojans: You will have the opportunity to enter any accommodation requests when making your reservation. If you have dietary needs, we’re happy to help.

Preparing for Orientation: What to Do After Registration

Now that you’ve registered for an Orientation session, follow the GoingGarnet! and more. You’ll also schedule your individual advising appointment. in your USC Admissions Portal and takes about 30 minutes to complete. If you need to cancel, you must do so at least two weeks before your scheduled session to be eligible for a refund.
