UNT Student Orientation Guide: Your Path to Success

Embarking on your college journey at the University of North Texas (UNT) is an exciting step. Orientation is designed to equip you with the knowledge and resources necessary for a smooth transition. This guide provides comprehensive information about UNT's orientation programs, covering registration, what to expect, and how to make the most of your experience.

Registering for Orientation

Accessing the Registration Portal

The first step to attending orientation is registering through the MyUNT portal at my.unt.edu. To begin, log in with your EUID and password. Navigate to the "Advising & Orientation" section and click "Register for Orientation." The system will display only sessions with available spaces, so it's advisable to register early as sessions tend to fill up quickly. Registration for Spring 2026 and Summer/Fall 2026 orientations are now live!

Selecting Your Session

The Orientation Registration page in your student portal will provide the most up-to-date list of available sessions. Once you've chosen your desired orientation date, click "Save." Note that changing your NSO (New Student Orientation) date is possible, allowing flexibility in your schedule.

Payment Options

Payment for orientation can be made online through your MyUNT portal or in person at the Orientation and Transition Programs office located in Union 377. UNT understands that financial constraints may arise; therefore, students have until the beginning of classes to pay the fee. Rest assured that financial constraints will not prohibit you from attending orientation. Orientation Fees are non-refundable.

Schedule and Housing

The Freshman Orientation schedule will be posted by March 1, 2026. Students attending sessions 1-11 should bring items for their overnight stay on-campus and may move into their fall residence hall on the first day of orientation. Overnight housing is not provided during Freshman Orientation 12 or 13. Housing for sessions 12 and 13 will be available by July 15.

Important Considerations

Roommate requests are not accepted for Freshman Orientation. However, students can view the Freshman Orientation packing list before arriving on campus. If you are under the age of 18 at the start of orientation, you should check the appropriate boxes on your orientation registration materials.

If you require an exemption from on-campus housing, you can fill out an orientation housing exemption form, which will be reviewed by UNT staff.

Parent & Family Orientation

Encouraged Participation

The Parent & Family Orientation program is optional but highly encouraged. While attending the student orientation program does not automatically register you for the Parent & Family Orientation, it provides invaluable insights into the UNT experience for family members. Spring 2026 Parent & Family Orientations are now available for registration! 2026 Parent Orientation registration will open in January 2026.

Program Structure

Although students and their families will follow separate itineraries, you will be together several times throughout the experience, including during resource fairs, sessions, and actual registration. Parents and guests are not required to attend NSO but they are welcome! Your guest count does not include you.
