Universal Learning Academy: A Comprehensive Overview
Universal Learning Academy (ULA) is a non-discriminatory independent public school located in Westland, Michigan. Authorized by Bay Mills Community College, ULA offers an outstanding elementary education based on Michigan’s core curriculum and the study of international cultures, including a language, culture, and history different from one’s own.
Mission and Values
At ULA, the mission is to encourage students, who come from more than two dozen countries, to tear down walls and build bridges by sharing and celebrating their diverse cultural backgrounds. ULA is a public school academy with a well-rounded program based on the Michigan core curriculum and focused on the study of international cultures.

Early Childhood Programs
ULA offers programs for infants to children up to 5 years old. They follow The Creative Curriculum, a research-based curriculum that focuses on discovery and exploration as a way of learning. ULA also offers an Early Head Start Program for children 0-3 years, completely free.

Locations and Expansion
Universal Learning Academy has multiple locations, including the original campus and ULA West in Evans, GA, which is the 5th location. At this new location, children from infants through preschoolers will enjoy age-appropriate class sizes, certified teachers, and engaging curriculums designed to foster social, emotional, and academic growth.

Ms. Knight is the Founder and Director of Universal Learning Academy and has over 25 years of experience in early childhood education. ULA is always looking for dedicated educators and support staff to join their growing family.
Awards and Recognition
Universal Learning Academy is performing average compared to public and charter schools in Michigan with the same grade levels. This school has earned 3 College Success Awards since the 2019-20 school year, most recently for 2021-22, based on its success in preparing students for college.
