Navigating UCLA: A Guide to AAP and Comprehensive Counseling Services

For undergraduate students at UCLA, academic success is paramount. Recognizing this, the university offers a wide array of academic counseling services and resources designed to support students throughout their academic journey. Among these valuable resources is the Academic Advancement Program (AAP), a program specifically tailored to assist students from groups historically underserved in higher education. The Academic Advancement Program (AAP)

The Academic Advancement Program (AAP) at UCLA is dedicated to encouraging and promoting academic achievement by offering support to students from groups historically underserved in higher education. AAP is a cohort-based program designed to serve first-generation, low-income, and diverse populations. The program provides an array of academic services, including peer tutoring, academic programs, personal and career counseling, graduate mentoring, scholarships, and research opportunities.

Becoming an AAP Member

Students interested in joining AAP can find out if they qualify and apply to be a part of the community. AAP has always centered student voices, and we will continue to do so.

AAP Counseling Services

AAP offers both in-person and virtual counseling services to its students. Students can access these services during drop-in hours, which are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All AAP Counselors are available for scheduled in-advance or same-day appointments. To schedule a time to meet with an AAP Professional Counselor, please call (310) 825-1481 or drop by the AAP Counseling Front Desk at 1205 Campbell Hall. The AAP Counseling Unit hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Peer Learning with AAP

Peer Learning is open to any student within AAP interested in strengthening their academic skills. AAP offers in-person learning sessions, courses, and writing sessions.

AAP Summer Programs

AAP offers two academic summer programs for incoming students: the Freshman Summer Program and the Transfer Summer Program. These programs help students gain credits toward their degree and build community.

Center for Community College Partnerships

The Center for Community College Partnerships (CCCP) offers scholarships and summer programs.

AAP Alumni Network

The AAP Alumni Network hosts events that bring UCLA students together with alumni to build connections, gain insight, and learn from shared Bruin experiences.

College Academic Counseling (CAC)

The Center for Academic Advising in the College (CAAC) provides academic counseling to students enrolled in programming within the College of Letters and Sciences. College Academic Counseling aims to provide resources and an active partnership with students to help them navigate academics at UCLA. CAC helps students plan and shape their undergraduate career at UCLA and assist in engaging students in a broader dialogue to clarify academic and personal goals. CAC advising includes degree requirement, general education requirement, credit transfers, and other services to ensure that you are on the right track towards graduation. Honors Programs Counseling

Department of Engineering Academic and Student Affairs

UCLA Department of Engineering’s Academic and Student Affairs offers academic counselors, both undergraduate and professional counselors, to assist you in any area within this department, including aerospace engineering, bioengineering, chemical, civil, computer engineering, computer science, electrical, materials, mechanical, and undeclared engineering. UCLA Arts Student Services

Herb Alpert School of Music Student Services & Enrollment Management

The primary functions of the Office of Student Services & Enrollment Management at the Herb Alpert School of Music are to recruit, enroll, retain, and graduate undergraduate and graduate students at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. programs through admissions information sessions. The admissions information sessions are presented in a group format with a number of scheduled speakers. We encourage participants to arrive prior to the beginning of the session. Refer to the program of interest and click on the Admissions Information Sessions link. On acceptance to the school, all students are assigned a faculty adviser to aid in planning their total program. Students are expected to meet with their adviser each term to evaluate progress, to identify academic and personal needs and match them with available school and University resources, to confirm University and course requirements, and to maximize the student's abilities to reach educational and professional goals. School of Theater, Film, and Television (TFT) Student Services

The Student Services Office provides a variety of counseling and program planning services to students. The staff members are available to help students navigate through the requirements for the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, from the point of admission to graduation. Eleuteria (Ellie) Hernández, Student Affairs Officer for the César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o Studies, is available to help Chicana/o Studies Major and Minor students with advising, planning, and navigating campus.
