Navigating UCF Weekend Parking Rules: A Comprehensive Guide
As the largest university in Florida by enrollment, the University of Central Florida (UCF) presents unique parking and commuting challenges. With thousands of students vying for parking spots daily and being one of the state’s biggest commuter schools, navigating the massive campus requires careful planning and knowledge of parking regulations. This guide provides comprehensive information on UCF's parking rules, particularly focusing on weekend policies, to help students, faculty, staff, and visitors avoid common pitfalls and ensure a smooth experience.
Understanding UCF Parking Permits
A key aspect of navigating UCF parking is understanding the permit system. Having an expired or improperly displayed parking permit is a common reason for student citations. Permits are registered to the individual and the car, making them non-transferable between students. However, hang-tag permits can be transferred between vehicles registered to the same permit holder.
Types of Permits and Costs
Permit types and costs vary depending on the student's status (on-campus, commuting) and parking needs.
- On-Campus Students: "R," "RL," and "KP" permits are available based on the residence hall. These permits grant access to specific lots detailed on the Student Permit page.
- Commuting Students: "D" permits allow parking in all green "D" parking lots and unreserved parking garages, as indicated on the Campus Map and Parking Guide.
- Daily Permits: A daily permit costs \$5 and is suitable for infrequent campus visits. Purchase a permit through UCF’s Parking Portal or the mobile app.
- Virtual Daily parking permits: Virtual Daily parking permits are available \$8.00 per day and are allowed in General (green) student spaces. After 5:30pm, virtual daily parking permits are allowed to park in Employee, Unreserved, or Student spaces.
Weekend Parking Regulations
UCF Parking Permits are valid for their select locations from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. After 5:30 pm and on weekends, students may park in B and C lots, as well as red, blue, or green spaces, except those marked 24-hour reserved or otherwise designated spot. Always pay attention to signs and lot markings to ensure you won’t be ticketed.
General Weekend Parking Rules
After 5:30 PM on weekdays and throughout the weekends, parking regulations relax, allowing permit holders to park in various lots that are restricted during weekday hours. Specifically, students can utilize B and C lots, as well as red, blue, or green spaces. However, it's crucial to note that areas marked as "24-hour reserved" or otherwise designated spots remain restricted at all times.

Virtual Parking Permits
The virtual parking system allows you to use your license plate number as your parking permit. Annual virtual permits are valid 365 days from the date of purchase. For those who would like to purchase parking by semester, there will be a 150-day virtual permit valid 150 days from date of purchase. Faculty, staff, and students can register their vehicle’s license plate information into the online parking system when purchasing their virtual permits. The virtual permitting system then combines this information with your payment and generates a virtual permit linked to that vehicle’s license plate number. When a vehicle parks on campus, the license plate is captured by cameras mounted on enforcement vehicles. When read, the numbers of your plate are automatically referenced against the parking database to verify a valid permit and the proper parking privileges for each parking facility. If the license plate and vehicle information are not associated with a valid virtual permit or the vehicle is parked in an inappropriate lot (Employee vs. License Plate Recognition (LPR) is smart parking technology that provides virtual permits through a vehicle’s license plate instead of paper permits or plastic hangtags. LPR increases parking efficiency on campus, provides convenience for UCF’s constituents and offers a touchless approach to attaining permit credentials.
