Enriching the Community and Environment: Volunteer Opportunities at UCF Arboretum
Introduction
The University of Central Florida (UCF) recognizes the invaluable contributions of volunteers in furthering its mission. The UCF Arboretum provides a diverse range of volunteer opportunities for students to engage with nature, acquire new skills, and contribute to the campus community. Whether you're passionate about gardening, conservation, or simply spending time outdoors, the Arboretum offers a fulfilling volunteer experience.
Engaging with Nature: Diverse Volunteer Roles
The Arboretum offers a variety of volunteer opportunities catering to different interests and skill sets. Volunteers can participate individually or as a group to support various initiatives:
- Community Garden: Assist in the community garden, where volunteers engage students in topics and activities related to gardening, nutrition, and agricultural career exploration. This hands-on experience allows volunteers to contribute to a sustainable food source while educating others about healthy eating and agricultural practices.
- Horticultural Work in Campus Landscapes: Contribute to the beauty of the UCF campus by assisting with horticultural work in campus landscapes. This may involve planting, pruning, weeding, and watering plants to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the university grounds.
- Campus Natural Lands: Help manage and restore campus green spaces and natural lands. Volunteers help maintain trails, pick up litter, pull out invasive plants, etc., contributing to the preservation of Central Florida's unique ecosystems.
Through involvement, students will learn new skills, work outside in nature, gain valuable hands-on experience, play in the dirt, learn about plants and experience some of Central Florida’s unique ecosystems. Help the UCF Arboretum run the community garden, manage and restore campus green space, assist in campus landscapes, learn how to give tours, and more. Volunteers help plant, prune, propagate, weed, water, maintain trails, pick up litter, pull out invasive plants, etc.
