Understanding UCF Towers Housing Costs

Due dates for housing charges covered by anticipated financial aid in excess of tuition and tuition-related fees are automatically deferred until the financial aid is received or the mid-point of the semester. Generally, financial aid pays tuition and tuition-related fees first. An exception to this is for financial aid that is restricted in use, such as Florida Prepaid Dormitory Plan benefits, which must be applied to housing first.

Holds on Student Accounts

If a housing charge is outstanding more than 45 days after the original due date, a HOLD will be automatically imposed on the student account. This HOLD can be removed by payment, in full, of the underlying charge, which typically posts to the student account one business day after the payment is initiated.

Financial Hardship and Payment Extensions

Holds can be modified to allow registration/drop/add for good cause shown, as determined by the department. However, financial hardship, inability to pay, or lack of knowledge of due dates are not considered good cause. If you have anticipated financial aid in excess of tuition and tuition-related fees, which will be paid directly to the Department of Housing and Residence Life by the Student Financial Aid office, you will receive an automatic extension of the payment deadline for some or all of your housing costs and fees.

Estimating Housing Costs

To estimate whether you will be responsible for payment of some or all of your housing costs and fees, consider the following:

  1. Your Florida Prepaid Dormitory Plan (FPDP) may not cover the entire cost of your room.
  2. You are responsible for paying for any amount not covered by your plan and financial aid before the payment due date.
  3. Do not include financial aid or financial assistance which is paid directly to you, such as College Work-Study Program assistance, direct pay scholarships like military housing allowance, private loans, etc.
  4. The amount you owe is only an estimate and can change from time to time, based on changes in class registration, drop/add/withdrawal, or in financial aid offered/paid.

You are responsible for estimating whether you need to make a Housing payment and how much.

Florida Prepaid College Plan (FPCP)

The Department of Housing and Residence Life accepts the Florida Prepaid College Plan (FPCP) dormitory contracts. One unit of an FPCP dormitory contract will cover the cost of a shared room in the Apollo, Libra, Nike, and Hercules communities for either the fall or spring semester. Students with FPCP dormitory contracts may live anywhere on campus.

Applying FPCP to Housing

When you complete the online housing application on myUCF, there will be a section to indicate your FPCP dormitory contract number on the Housing Application Payment page. Make sure to put in the correct number for your plan and press the Submit button. You will see that your prepayment will change to $0 and the page will indicate that the prepayment will be billed to the Florida Prepaid Dormitory Plan. You should then select the Next button at the bottom of the page.

Canceling FPCP and Receiving a Refund

Students must request a “No space” letter from the Department of Housing and Residence Life. The student contract holder then submits the letter to the FPCP and requests a refund. Students will receive an amount equal to the amount being paid for a dormitory space on campus. The refund will be provided for two semesters so that it may be used to offset the costs associated with off-campus living. It is very important to notify UCF Housing promptly of your intent to cancel. Cancellation fees vary based on the type of agreement and date of notification.

UCF Towers at Knights Plaza: A Detailed Look

Students participating in the UCF Online degree program are not eligible to live in UCF Housing.

Agreement Types

UCF Housing offers different styles and agreement lengths:

  • Academic Agreement: Includes the option of living at select communities for TWO semesters (Fall and Spring).
  • Annual Agreement: Includes the option of living at select communities for THREE semesters (Fall, Spring, and the following Summer).

Rosen residents have the option to add a summer semester to their Academic Agreement. Residents living in Rosen do not have to vacate their space during winter break.

Rental Rates

Rental rates are listed by semester, per person, per room type. Rental Rates are approved by the UCF Board of Trustees each year. All rates are subject to change.

Roommate Matching and Open Housing

UCF Housing offers a Roommate Matching service to help you find preferred roommates. Every student is assigned a unique web screen name, which can be used to search for specific students or message potential roommates. UCF Housing and Residence Life also offers an Open Housing option to students of all classifications and in all housing agreement types. Open Housing allows students to reside together in the same room, suite, or apartment, regardless of sex.

Room Selection

Select your room assignment online with your roommate group during the online room selection process from May through July. Your room selection appointment times are determined based on when you completed your housing application. Rooms are available on a first applied, first served basis.
