Navigating Study Spaces at UCF: Locations and Hours
The University of Central Florida (UCF) provides a variety of study spaces across its campuses to support the academic endeavors of its students, faculty, and staff. From silent study zones to collaborative group rooms, UCF Libraries offer environments tailored to different learning preferences. This article will guide you through the various study room locations and provide information on their hours of operation and reservation policies.
John C. Hitt Library: A Hub for Study
The John C. Hitt Library, the main library on UCF's main campus, offers a multitude of study environments to suit diverse needs. Here's a breakdown of the available spaces:
Silent Study Space
Located on the 4th Floor of the John C. Hitt Library, the Silent Study Space provides a quiet and focused environment for students seeking uninterrupted concentration. With 131 seats available, it is designed to accommodate individual study needs in a peaceful setting. To maintain the silence, students are required to silence their cell phones, and talking is strictly prohibited.
OverKnight Study
A small section of the 2nd Floor is open for extended hours at the end of the semester, 1 - 6 am Monday - Friday early mornings. A UCF ID will be REQUIRED to gain entry to the library during these hours. This area will include 150 seats, desktop PCs, restrooms, and a drinking/bottle refill station. The entrance to access OverKnight Study is located on the north side of the library by the John T. Washington Center and the Student Union. No library services such as check outs or research assistance will be available during these extended hours. There are also no printers available.
Group Study Rooms
UCF Libraries offers study rooms at multiple campus locations which are bookable by UCF students, faculty and staff for up to 4 hours a day. These rooms are ideal for collaborative projects and group discussions.

360 Study Commons
As part of the 21st Century Library renovations, 2 conference rooms were added to the 3rd floor of the John C. Hitt Library within the 360 Study Commons suite. The new seminar room on the 3rd floor is a stunning space with a cypress wall and 2 star embossed glass walls.
Instruction Rooms
UCF Libraries has two Instruction Rooms in the John C. Hitt Library. Room 170, the Dr. Joel Hartman Room, is an active learning room seating 36. Room 175, the Barry Baker Room, is a traditional computer instruction room seating 40.
Multipurpose Event Space
As part of the 21st Century Library renovations, a spectacular Multipurpose event space was added to the 4th floor of the John C. Hitt Library overlooking the Student Union facing entrance. This room can seat up to 110 guests depending on room set up and has space for catering setup. The room is bookable by Libraries Employees only.
Art Wall and Glass Display Cases
The Art Wall and Glass Display cases on the main floor of the John C. Hitt Library are can be booked by UCF and Community groups for a month long display. Examples of previous displays include She Persisted - Women’s History Month at UCF (2018), Africana Studies (2018), Pulse 5th Anniversary Memorial (2021), and Lunar New Year (2023).
Quiet Booths
Quiet Booths are strategically placed throughout the library. These sound reducing booths are located across various floors for individual use. The Quiet Booths, offer an opportunity of uninterrupted focus and concentration. Each booth has USB-A and USB-C ports, perfect for charging a personal device.

5th Floor
Welcome to the highest and quietest floor of the John C. Hitt Library. The 5th Floor, which occupies the half of the building by the Legacy entrance, is where silence blends with concentration and calm to create the perfect study space. Rustling pages, soft key typing, and soft pen strokes make up the soundtrack. The 5th floor houses several ergonomic seating and focus options designed for extended study sessions.
Individual Seats and Study Carrels
Floors 1 - 3 offer individual seats and study carrels that paired with earplugs can become a subdued study haven. Earplugs help block out environmental sounds, allowing patrons to focus on their studies without distraction. For those looking for a quiet experience in a busier location, the library offers free earplugs upon request. With earplugs as your truest sidekick, you’ll become comfortable with the ability to transform the busiest floors into your own sanctuary.
Accessing the John C. Hitt Library
To reach the John C. Hitt Library, consider the following directions:
Enter UCF Campus via University Boulevard. This is the “main” entrance to campus.
Turn right (southeast) onto Gemini Boulevard. The first stop light after entering campus is at University Boulevard and Gemini Boulevard. [Note: University Boulevard ends at Gemini Boulevard. You either have to go left or right. If you go straight through this intersection you would enter Garage A.]

Follow Gemini Boulevard around past the water tower. Once you are on Gemini Boulevard, you will go through four stoplights:
- Stoplight 1: Central Florida Boulevard
- Stoplight 2: Andromeda Circle
- Stoplight 3: Garage B entrance/exit
- Stoplight 4: Libra Drive (the water tower will be on your right)
At the fifth stoplight, turn left (west) onto Scorpius Street. This is the stoplight after the water tower. The new UCF power plan building is on the southwest corner of Gemini Boulevard and Scorpius Street.
Once you are on Scorpius Street, you will go through two stop signs:
- Stop sign 1: Garage C entrance. This is a 3-way stop sign. Garage C will be on your right
- Stop sign 2: Pedestrian cross walk. NOTE: The road is in terrible shape just pass this stop sign. Drive carefully through here.
Turn right at the third stop sign on Scorpius Street. You can only turn right at this stop sign. If you go straight you will be in a loading dock area. The Research I building is on your right.
Veer left at the intersection of Scorpius Street and Pegasus Drive. This is a strange intersection - Scorpius Street veers left and turns into Pegasus Drive. There is a sign post to the left, which can be difficult to see, that says “PEGASUS DR.” It also has a sign that “STUDENT UNION” with an arrow pointing to the left. If you accidentally continue straight instead of veering left, you will end up on the far side of the Research I building and eventually in its parking lot.
Follow Pegasus Drive as it turns left. There will be open space/wet lands on your right.
Follow Pegasus Drive as it turns left again. As you veer left, the Student Union and the Libraries ARC building will be on your right.
Enter the Libraries’ loading dock area. This is where Pegasus Drive ends.
P.O. John C. Parking Garage A and Garage I are the closest parking garages to the John C. Hitt Library. These garages have accessible spaces.
Other Campus Locations
Downtown Campus
There are many other reservable group study rooms and meeting rooms located on the Downtown Campus. Current students, faculty and staff can reserve group study rooms for same-day scheduling using a touch panel outside of each room. Meeting rooms may also be reserved by current students, faculty and staff by sending a calendar appointment through Microsoft Outlook. There are four glass study rooms on the 2nd floor, East side of the DPAC building near the Tech Lending desk. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved for use by the Library.
CMC Library
The CMC Library has two group study rooms. One is available for reservations through libcal. The other is available on site at a first come basis.
General Policies for Study Room Use
- Rooms are available for currently enrolled UCF students.
- Individuals may book a maximum of four hours per day.
- Please arrive promptly for your reservation. There is a 15 minute grace period before no-show reservations are cancelled.
- Overdue fines for study rooms are $1.00 per hour.
- Please do not disconnect or reconfigure any devices in the room.
- Study room patrons must not exceed maximum occupancy limit for the room. If there are more occupants than the room is allows, you may be asked to leave.
Booking a Study Room
Select a start time for your booking. Scroll down the page to see your selection room, date, and time in a gray box. Use the drop-down menu in the gray box to choose the duration of your reservation. Click on “Submit Times” and continue to confirm your booking details. When your reservation time begins, you have 15 minutes to check in once inside the room, otherwise your reservation will be canceled.

Daily hours for the John C. Hitt, CMC, Downtown Campus and UCF Connect Libraries buildings and service desks are listed below. Operating hours are subject to change, especially for dates far in advance.
Additional Information
UCF students have access to some services & collections at the Downtown Campus and UCF Connect locations, but procedures are subject to change and are governed by the state college host institution.
