UCF Student Health Services: Comprehensive Guide to STD Testing and Wellness Resources

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is committed to supporting the health and well-being of its students. UCF Student Health Services (SHS) provides a wide array of medical and wellness services, including confidential sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, gynecological care, mental health support, and general medical assistance. This article serves as a comprehensive guide to understanding the available resources and how to access them.

Overview of UCF Student Health Services

UCF Health Student Health Services (SHS) offers various primary and specialty care services to help keep students at their optimum health. The Health Center is located on the Main Campus, and satellite clinics are located at the Rosen, Health Sciences, and Downtown campuses. Students’ primary care consultation and evaluation by our health providers are covered by the Health Fee, included in their tuition. Additional services/materials are either billed to insurance or you can take advantage of our low self-pay prices.

Accessing Health Services

Appointments and Walk-ins

Appointments are highly recommended in order to provide students with the shortest amount of wait time. You may make an appointment by calling 407-823-2701, or by stopping by the Health Center and scheduling with our appointments clerk. Walk-in students will be assessed by a Nurse Facilitator to determine their need to be seen.

First-Time Visits and Insurance

If this is your first time at our clinic, please complete the Health History form located online in the Patient Portal prior to your appointment. For patients with Medical Insurance, please be sure to file your insurance with us prior to your appointment. In order to bill your insurance, it must be on file before you are seen by a medical provider. Please register or update your insurance with us by completing the Medical Insurance Registration Form so we can verify your insurance is active and add the information to your Electronic Health Record.

Appointment Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel an appointment, please call the appointment line 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule. Because of the high demand for services, canceling in advance will enable us to fill the appointment time with another person who needs medical care. There is a fee for appointments missed without 24 advance notice. Fees may vary from $10 to $30 based on the type of appointment.

Parking Information

The closest parking garages to the Health Center are the Libra Garage and Garage B. These have the amplest parking (long-term or daily permit required). The Health Center also has a select number of dedicated spots for patients in ground lot C3. However, parking in these spots will require an additional appointment parking permit to be added to their current permit. If you park in one of these designated spots, please provide your license plate number to our staff at the front desk during check-in. Both the appointment permit AND a daily or long-term UCF parking permit (purchased digitally through UCF Parking Services or through the UCF Mobile App) are required in order to legally park in these designated spots. Vehicles parked in these spaces without the additional appointment parking permit, or who remain beyond the allocated timeslot are subject to citations or towing.

Comprehensive Medical Services

A wide variety of services to support student health and well-being are available at the Health Center. Our providers are trained to diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions, including skin conditions, cold and flu, infections, depression, injuries, and more. They can also assist with the management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, Crohn’s disease, and more.

Diagnostic Services

Students have the convenience of having their x-rays taken here at the Health Center. Because we use the latest all-digital technology, most x-rays have an initial-read 20-minute turnaround time, so students rarely have to come back or wait for a phone call to be diagnosed. All x-rays are sent to a consultant radiologist for confirmation of diagnoses. For a quick diagnosis, we can process limited labs in-house via our own Physician Office Laboratory. We also send specimens to outside labs as specified by your insurance plan. Lab orders from outside physician offices can not be accepted directly and will require patients to schedule with one of our providers to review the orders before transferring to our facility.

Sexual Health Services

UCF Student Health Services provides a variety of sexual health services including STD testing, well-woman exams, safer-sex counseling and more.

STD Testing

One of the most critical services offered is confidential STI testing. Regular STI testing is essential for maintaining sexual health and preventing the spread of infections. UCF Wellness & Health Promotion Services offers FREE HIV Testing and Risk Reduction Counseling. Please click here for more information about HIV Testing. In addition, our office also provides free condoms at various on-campus locations. Find out your HIV status at no cost to you and from the comfort of your home. UCF Student Health Services offers confidential examinations, testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraceptives counseling and prescribing, and other gynecological services for UCF students.

Mental Health Support

Our providers can assist you in dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, sleep issues and more.

Immunizations

We offer a wide variety of immunizations for your optimum health. This includes MMR, Hepatitis B, Meningitis, HPV, T-dap, TB/PPD tests, and more. Most vaccines are covered by your health insurance. For those paying out-of-pocket, our prices are often less than local Health Department prices. Each fall, Student Health Services offers students, faculty and staff flu shots.

UCF Victims Services

UCF Victims Services has offices within the ORANGE POD of the Student Health Center. Their advocates offer CONFIDENTIAL support, crisis intervention, reporting and disclosure options, safety planning, information and referrals, practical assistance, and educational programs. Our clients are informed of all their reporting and disclosure options and we empower them to make the best decision for themselves. If you or someone you know has been impacted by crime, violence, or abuse, we can help, call a confidential victim advocate at (407) 823-1200 or text (407)823-6868.

Additional Support Services
