Unveiling UCF Library Rental Services: Accessing Resources for Academic Success

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries offer a comprehensive suite of rental services designed to support the academic endeavors of students, faculty, and staff. From technology lending to study room reservations and resource sharing, the library system provides the tools and spaces necessary for learning, research, and collaboration. This article explores the various rental services available through UCF Libraries, with a focus on the John C. Hitt Library, and outlines the policies and procedures governing their use.

Technology Lending at the LibTech Desk

The LibTech area within the John C. Hitt Library provides a diverse array of technology-related services to library patrons. The LibTech Desk offers various pieces of equipment eligible for checkout by current UCF Students, Faculty, and Staff Members. This includes:

  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Cameras (including DSLRs for certified users)
  • Audio recorders
  • Projectors
  • Adapters and cables
  • Other tech accessories

The LibTech desk in the Hitt Library offers a wide variety of technological equipment and accessories that can be checked out by anyone in the UCF community, and they provide technology and printing assistance for all hours the library is open. The LibTech desk provides technology and printing assistance for all hours the library is open.

Important Information Regarding LibTech Services

It's important to note that LibTech hours may vary. For example, Saturday, October 21, will be the first Saturday that LibTech will be closed. This change was made mid-semester due to a 19% increase in patron interactions at the LibTech desk for the months of August-September compared to the previous year. While we love serving the UCF community, the increase in support needed to operate the desk during peak hours has reduced the full-time staff’s ability to keep up with equipment maintenance tasks and caused continued delays on new services such as the Podcast Studio and Photo/Video Studio.

LibTech Policies

Any LibTech items that are more than 3 days overdue are considered Billed Lost. Items returned more than 30 days after payment will not be refunded paid replacement charges. All LibTech items will have a $1.00 per hour, per item, late fine assessed once the due date/time has passed. LibTech does not issue refunds.

Community Patrons (Minors): Any person under the age of 18 who wishes to purchase a Special Borrower’s card must have their parent or other legal guardian purchase the card and co-sign for the card with the minor. By co-signing the card the guardian assumes full financial liability for any library item issued to the minor. Only that one authorized minor can use the card to check out items; the parent/guardian who purchased the card for the minor cannot use the card.

Overdue Fines and Lost/Damaged Items

The following policies apply to the John C. Any General Collection items that are more than 30 days overdue are considered Billed Lost. Patrons who owe $10.00 or more will have a block placed on their library account. This block will prevent the patron from checking out library materials and renewing library materials. Students who owe a total balance of $100.00+ or have been charged a damaged or replacement cost will have an University Academic Block placed on their account. The University Academic block will be placed on registration.

Until library materials are received by the UCF Libraries, they are the responsibility of the borrower. Credit for return will be given when the material is checked in a UCF Libraries location. All materials which have been lost, damaged or stolen should be reported immediately. If the item is overdue by more than 30 days it is automatically assumed lost. Patrons will be billed for the replacement cost of lost or stolen items; replacement copies can no longer be accepted.

Appeals Process

All Library charges of overdue, damaged, or lost materials may be appealed upon patron request. The Appeals Form is available ONLY online. The Library Appeals Committee will review your submission and make a final decision on the acceptance or rejection of your appeal, within one week.

Claims Return

Library materials that remain on your account, that you believe have been turned into the library, must be reported to the Access Services Desk as soon as possible. After filling out a claims return form, a series of diligent searches for the item will be made throughout the Library over a period of two weeks. Contact the Access Services Department at the John C.

Requesting Materials

UCF Students, Faculty, and Staff can request materials located in the ARC or General Collection in Primo. When you have found the item you wish to request in Primo, Click the “Sign in” link under the Request Heading on the item page if you are not currently logged in. Once you are logged in, a “Request” link will appear next to the “REQUEST OPTIONS” heading. Click the link. Patrons may request items that are currently available and they will be pulled for you in 24 hours. If the item you place a hold on is currently checked out it may be recalled. Items are held for seven days.

By appointment, UCF Libraries staff will retrieve items from the stacks for patrons with a documented sensory or physical disability. Contact the Access Services Desk at the John C.

Graduate students, faculty & staff, undergraduates at branch & regional campuses, and distance learners may submit requests online to receive UCF Libraries items through our Library Express Delivery service.
