For students outside the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, the minor programs offer a valuable opportunity to gain in-demand skills and practical knowledge that align with their career goals.

Hospitality Management Minor: Foundational Knowledge

The Hospitality Management Minor provides students with foundational knowledge of hospitality operations and guest-service principles.

Event Management Minor: Fundamentals of Event Planning

The Event Management Minor introduces students to the fundamentals of planning, designing, and executing events across a variety of settings. This minor is geared to expose and increase students' knowledge base of the growing hospitality and event industries. This program teaches students how to strategically promote various types of events and how to identify potential risk while planning and executing an event(s). Students will be able to individualize their minor by the option to choose two restricted event management electives focused toward their career interest. It is well suited and intended for students who have interest in the field of the performing arts (Music, Arts, and Theater).

Admission Requirements: Not open to majors of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

Prerequisite Courses: Students who have not completed the prerequisites should contact the Instructor of Record for consent to enroll.

Graduate Certificate in Event Management: Effective Organization and Management

The Graduate Certificate in Event Management provides knowledge and information that facilitates the effective organization and management of events in the public, private, and third-sector contexts. The certificate covers the administration of events (e.g., promotion, budgeting, marketing, production, legal issues, customer service, ticketing, and concession), selling and marketing conventions and conferences, and organizing and administrating mega-events. Events are such an integral component of many industries today that although with a strong focus on tourism and hospitality, the certificate incorporates a number of perspectives, with event legacies being a particularly pertinent issue for all coursework. Students learn to synthesize theory and application at the graduate level in order to produce the knowledge base necessary to fully utilize available techniques and strategies for the effective organization, marketing, and management of events, conventions, and conferences. Students successfully completing this certificate may already be in event management positions or seeking such roles in the public, private, or third sectors.

Your graduate certificate through UCF Online includes event-management classes on the topics of promotion, budgeting, marketing, organization, administration and more, with a strong focus on tourism and hospitality. Upon graduation, you’ll have earned an accredited event management certification online, preparing you to lead the way in meaningful, thoughtful event management. The examination of event management, focusing on sports and entertainment. Explore a process-oriented approach to selling to the convention/conference market and servicing their events.

Please note: Event Management Graduate Certificate may be completed fully online, although not all elective options or program prerequisites may be offered online. Newly admitted students choosing to complete this program exclusively via UCF online classes may enroll with a reduction in campus-based fees.

International students (F or J visa): are required to enroll in a full-time course load of 9 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
