UCF Cyber Security Program: Forging Future Cybersecurity Leaders
The University of Central Florida (UCF) offers comprehensive cybersecurity programs designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in this critical field. Ranked among the top universities nationally, UCF is strategically positioned in Central Florida, a hub for modeling and simulation, and boasts a rich history of producing talent for the cybersecurity industry. UCF has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD) by the National Security Agency. Computer science alum Harrison Keating initially chose UCF so he could join, and later lead, the nation’s best collegiate cyber defense competition team.
The Growing Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals
The demand for cybersecurity professionals is high and is expected to grow over the next decade, particularly in Florida, which is one of the top employers of information security analysts. For over 60 years UCF has strived to produce the science and engineering talent required to meet the technological needs of the United States.
Strategic Location and Partnerships
Central Florida is designated by the state as the National Center for modeling and simulation. The National Center for Simulation, is headquartered in UCF’s Research Park. Research Park is also home to the world’s largest cluster for computer simulation and modeling. NCS is part of the “Team Orlando” partnership between military organizations, the modeling and simulation industry, and academic institutions working together to leverage resources and contribute to the overall security of the United States. UCF has established an Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE), housed in the College of Sciences (Political Science Department). The Center is funded by a grant from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).
Master of Science in Cyber Security and Privacy
The Master of Science in Cyber Security and Privacy program at UCF is designed to provide high-quality cybersecurity graduate education, advance cybersecurity and privacy research, and address the issues of state, national and international cybersecurity. It provides students with an in-depth education geared toward meeting the needs of business and industry in Florida and throughout the United States. Students successfully completing this program will have exhibited breadth as well as depth of capability involving both theoretical aspects and practical considerations and applications of cyber security issues in software, hardware, operating system, and various networked devices.
The Cybersecurity and Privacy MS program offers both a thesis and a non-thesis option with each option requiring a minimum of 30 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree. Both options require 9 credit hours of required core courses and 7 electives (21 credits). Students entering the MS program must choose between two distinct tracks: the Technical Track and the Interdisciplinary Track.

Technical Track
The Technical Track is designed for students aiming to become advanced cybersecurity and privacy professionals. This track focuses on mastering advanced knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy topics, such as secure execution environments and malware analysis. Students also gain expertise in electives like networking, database, operating systems, computer architecture, algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and software engineering. The Technical Track of the Cyber Security and Privacy MS program is designed for students aiming to become advanced cybersecurity and privacy professionals, who will master advanced knowledge on cybersecurity and privacy topics such as secure execution environment and malware analysis, and master knowledge on electives on networking, database, operating system, computer architecture, algorithms, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), and software engineering.
For the Technical Track, electives include a minimum of one course from cybersecurity/privacy topics, one course from networking, and one from data analytics. These three fields are considered necessary and fundamental for mastering advanced knowledge in cybersecurity and privacy. Students can also choose electives from operating systems, computer architecture, algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and software engineering to further expand their knowledge.
Accelerated BS to MS Program (Technical Track)
The Accelerated BS in Computer Science to MS program in Cyber Security and Privacy (Technical Track only) allows highly qualified UCF undergraduate majors in Computer Science (CS) to take graduate-level courses that will count toward their MS degree while completing their BS degree program. Up to nine (9) credit hours of 5000- and 6000-level courses with a grade of "B" (3.0) or better may be counted toward the accelerated BS to MS program. Two additional requirements for the students in this program are: Students must earn at least a "B" (3.0) in each undergraduate- or graduate-level course counted for the program. Students must opt for this program no later than the beginning of their junior year.
Interdisciplinary Track
The Interdisciplinary Track is designed for students aspiring to become managers or administrative personnel in cybersecurity and privacy operations. Students in this track take fundamental and core courses in cybersecurity and privacy and can choose electives from fields including management and business, human factors, psychology, and criminal justice. For Interdisciplinary Track, students can freely choose electives from management and business, human factors, psychology and criminal justice, depending on their interest and professional domains.
