Admission to the College of Business

It's important to understand the admission process to the College of Business Administration (CBA). Admission to UCF does not guarantee admission to the CBA. All students enter the University as a ‘pre’ business major, regardless of their intended specific business major. After receiving admission to UCF, students must qualify to be admitted to CBA.

Developing Essential Skills for Success

An accounting degree from UCF can prepare you for professional, industrial, managerial or governmental accounting, with strong potential for career advancements. To maximize their potential, accounting students should focus on developing several key skills:

  • Analytical Skills: The ability to examine complex financial data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Critical-Thinking Skills: The capacity to evaluate information objectively and identify potential issues.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The aptitude to identify and implement effective solutions to financial challenges.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Potential employers place a big emphasis on strong interpersonal skills.
  • Work Experience: Gain work experience and learn information about careers through internships.

Furthermore, students are advised to complete GEB 3006 Career Development & Financial Planning and strive to earn good grades.

Understanding Professional Licensure and Certification

While an accounting degree is versatile, it's crucial to understand the requirements for professional licensure or certification. While licensure or certification may be available in this field of study, our program does not lead to such licensure or certification upon graduation. If your career plans include pursuing state-regulated professional licensure or certification in your chosen field, it is important to know the credentialing requirements of the state in which you hope to practice. The professional preparation you receive in our program may still assist you in such pursuits; however, we are unable to confirm the specific licensure and certification requirements of each state, territory, or foreign entity in which professional credentialing may be possible. If you intend to pursue such credentialing in your state or elsewhere, we advise you to contact the applicable state credentialing authority to familiarize yourself with its specific requirements and determine if our program meets its academic criteria.

Additional Events and Resources at UCF

Beyond accounting-specific events, UCF offers a variety of resources and activities that can benefit all students:

  • The Registration Rodeo: This multi-day event prepares students for summer and fall registration. It helps students review their myUCF portal for holds and to-dos and teaches them how to view the necessary steps to resolve these items to avoid delays in their ability to register.
  • Creative Scholarship Showcase: This annual event highlights the creative scholarship, artistic pieces, and new productions of UCF students from various disciplines. UCF’s researchers don’t just produce research papers, posters, and conference presentations - they write poetry and stories, draw, paint, build, film, design, code, sew, shape and more!
  • Excellence Awards: These awards celebrate exceptional students and faculty mentors for their research and other endeavors, recognized annually during Student Research Week.
  • Senior Design Showcase: The College of Engineering and Computer Science alumni chapter organizes this event to showcase the work of graduating seniors.
  • RWC Classes: The RWC offers American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED, First Aid Blended Learning classes.

Emotional Well-being Workshops

UCF also provides resources for students' emotional well-being. The Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) Well-Being Online Workshop (WOW) series offers workshops on topics such as understanding the difference between emotional hunger and love. Virtual Emotional hunger can look like love and is often mistaken for it. This workshop focuses on the difference between the two, effects of emotional hunger on a relationship, longings and genuine affection, loving responses and those determined by emotional hunger.
