Navigating the Trevecca Nazarene University Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

For students attending Trevecca Nazarene University, the student portal, accessible through my.trevecca.edu, serves as a central hub for essential academic and campus life information. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of how to effectively utilize the student portal and other resources available to Trevecca students.

Accessing and Utilizing Self-Service

Trevecca pre-registers all new students for classes. Your student will finalize their class schedule when they meet with academic advisors during orientation. Your student can access their class schedule via Self-Service on my.trevecca.edu using their Trevecca username and password. If they forget their login info, they should contact their admissions counselor.

Academic Resources and Support

Academic Records and FERPA

Grades are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This means your student must give consent for anyone-including a parent-to access their academic records. However, please note that under FERPA, only your student can request academic information from faculty.

Waggoner Library

The award-winning Waggoner Library at Trevecca Nazarene University is a great resource for students and alumni alike.

Changing Majors

If your student wants to change their major before August orientation, have your student contact their admissions counselor to request the change. Most colleges don’t require students to declare a major until the end of their sophomore year, and many students change their major at least once.

Academic Standards

Provide a common set of expectations for what students will know and be able to do at the end of a grade for each subject area. Over the past several years, states have taken the lead in developing and adopting rigorous standards in English language arts and mathematics that build toward college and career readiness by the time students graduate from high school. Nearly every state now has adopted these college- and career-ready standards. A set of combined resources that both define and support ongoing teacher effectiveness to ensure students reach college and career-ready standards.

Campus Life and Housing

Housing Options and Requirements

Trevecca Nazarene University offers various housing options for students, with an average housing cost of $11,000 per year. 76.8% of first-year students live in college housing. Housing options include apartments for married students, apartments for single students, men's housing, and women's housing. All non-married students under the age of 23 at the time of registration, who are enrolled for six or more credit hours per semester and do not live at home, are required to live in university residence halls and participate in the board plan. Exceptions to this policy are made for unusual cases only. Students who are enrolled for five or less credit hours, are 23 years of age or older, have a previous baccalaureate degree, have been previously married, or have children who desire to live in residence halls may do so subject to permission from the Center for Student Development.

Roommate Information and Room Setup

One of the most anticipated events for a college student is finding out who your roommate will be and then meeting that person for the first time. You probably have a vision in your mind about how your room will look, but the first time you walk in, the room will not match the vision. However, as you add your personal effects, the room will quickly begin to feel more like home. As you get to know one another, you will put up posters and add items that reflect your common interests. It is a good idea for you to call or connect with your roommate in order to discuss what to bring. This contact and planning will help you avoid ending up with two televisions and no carpet, or two refrigerators and no radio.

Move-In Day

Each new student will be assigned a move-in time block based on their room assignment. Students starting in the fall semester who participate in the priority room selection process will be able to see their time block on the Student Development Gateway no later than July 1st. On your assigned move-in day you will check in first with Admissions and then proceed to your residence hall.

What to Bring

Visit our packing guide for a complete list of what your student should bring! We recommend that students bring smaller items from home and wait until arriving in Nashville to purchase larger items like furniture. Bathroom/cleaning supplies - broom/Swiffer, cleanser, glass cleaner, toilet brush, shower cleaner, etc.

Lofts

Trevecca Nazarene University partners with Bedloft.com to provide students with a loft rental program. Although beds are provided, renting a loft is an easy, affordable way to create additional living space in your room. Lofts may also be rented on move-in day, but quantities will be limited.

Residency Information

All new students, living on or off-campus, MUST provide residency information to the Center for Student Development. New students who have been admitted to Trevecca Nazarene University and paid their $200 Enrollment Deposit will be eligible to complete the online residential information. Please refer to this guide for additional help when signing up for a room.

Financial Resources

529 Plans

A 529 plan is a tax-advantaged savings plan designed to encourage saving for future college costs. 529 plans, legally known as “qualified tuition plans,” are sponsored by states, state agencies, or educational institutions and are authorized by Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code. There are two types of 529 plans: pre-paid tuition plans and college savings plans. All fifty states and the District of Columbia sponsor at least one type of 529 plan. In addition, a group of private colleges and universities sponsor a pre-paid tuition plan. To learn about the 529 Plan, please visit privatecollege529.com.

Payment Plans

All undergraduates have the option of signing up for an interest-free payment plan with our partner organization, TouchNet, as an alternative to paying the full amount due at the beginning of each semester. It is a priority that the student re-enroll in the payment plan each semester.

Parent Loans

Credit based loan available to parents of dependent students. Interest rate is fixed at 7.595% and payments begin 60 days after full disbursement of loan. Parents must complete a credit check annually and a master promissory note the first time the loan is taken out. Parents may request an in-school deferment from lender. Parents should list the annual amount they would like to borrow when completing the credit check. Failure to list an amount may cause a delay in processing.
