Strategic Leadership in Fashion and Textiles

Thomas Jefferson University seeks an innovative, collaborative, and visionary leader to serve as Dean of the College of Fashion and Textiles. The Dean will provide strategic and academic leadership for one of the nation’s most respected institutions in fashion, textiles, and related disciplines. The College of Fashion and Textiles (JCFT) at Thomas Jefferson University is a recognized leader in fashion and textile education, combining design excellence, scientific innovation, and industry relevance.

The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the Jefferson College of Fashion & Textiles and reports directly to the Provost & Chief Academic Officer of Thomas Jefferson University. The Dean will provide strategic direction and oversight for all academic programs within the College, ensuring excellence in teaching, research, accreditation compliance, and student outcomes.

The Dean will lead and model endeavors outlined in the College’s Inclusivity Plan, including:

  • Education and Awareness: Ensuring faculty, students, and staff have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to model culturally competent behavior and that students graduate prepared to interpret, respect, and value local, global, and conceptual diversity.
  • People: Implementing inclusive practices to recruit, retain, and advance a highly skilled and diverse faculty, staff, and student population reflective of the communities Jefferson serves.
  • Community Engagement: Engaging faculty, staff, and students to expand Jefferson’s presence and impact within local, regional, and global communities.

The Dean will maintain an engaged, connected, and supportive academic environment, clearly communicating direction, generating support during times of change, and providing regular feedback to faculty and staff. They will also conduct annual performance reviews, establish and communicate expectations and goals, and nurture leadership development aligned with a formal succession plan.

Thomas Jefferson University is nationally recognized for its transdisciplinary and interprofessional approach to education. The university boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including the Dr. Robert and Dorothy Rector Clinical Skills and Simulation Center, the Fashion and Textiles Future Center, the Scott Memorial Library, and the Paul J. Gutman Library.

The Fashion and Textiles Future Center is a premier center providing students with a hands-on look into the industry and is a highly collaborative training environment. The Scott Memorial Library has one of the region's best collections of life sciences publications, with more than 220,000 books and bound print journals, and over 6,000 electronic journals. The Paul J. Gutman Library, a 54,000 square foot building serves as the main library of Thomas Jefferson University, includes 42,000 online journals, supplements a book collection of more than 150,000 volumes, with special emphasis in the areas of art and architecture, design, textiles, sciences, and business.

The Dean will champion faculty research, scholarship, and creative activity, including interdisciplinary and applied research initiatives that position the College as a leader in fashion, textiles, sustainability, and materials innovation. They will also promote a student-centered, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment that supports student engagement, creativity, professional preparation, and lifelong learning. Working alongside program directors, the Dean will ensure academic programs are innovative, competitive, and responsive to evolving industry trends, workforce needs, and emerging markets.

The Dean will also cultivate and steward relationships with alumni, donors, corporate partners, foundations, and industry leaders, developing and directing alumni engagement initiatives that strengthen lifelong connections to the College and support philanthropy, mentorship, and career pathways for students.
