Exploring Admission Discounts and Ticketing Policies at the Central Park Zoo
The Central Park Zoo, a beloved attraction in the heart of New York City, offers a variety of experiences for visitors of all ages. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit, it's important to understand the zoo's admission policies, ticketing procedures, and available discounts. This article provides a comprehensive guide to navigating these aspects, drawing upon the zoo's official guidelines.
Understanding Admission Tickets
The Central Park Zoo requires all visitors to have a date-specific ticket for entry. This policy applies to every guest, every day, including WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) members. Purchasing tickets online in advance is strongly recommended, as it allows you to select your preferred date and arrival time, based on availability. Same-day tickets are available for online purchase, but are subject to availability.
How to Purchase Tickets
- Online: The primary method for purchasing tickets is online, which allows you to choose your preferred date and time slot.
- On-site: If you don't have access to a computer, you can use the self-service kiosk or the Admissions window at the park to buy tickets. However, purchase is based on availability, and timeslots may be sold out, potentially requiring wait times for future entry.
- Reservation Center: For those without computer access, the Reservation Center can be contacted between 9am and 5pm for assistance.
Timed Tickets for Existing Tickets
If you have an unused "open" ticket, such as a zoo online ticket that is still valid or had expired during a closure, you will need to apply that to a timed ticket before arriving at the zoo. Use the online web form for assistance from the reservation center.
Ticket Policies
- Final Sale: All ticket sales are final. There are no refunds, cancellations, or rescheduling options available.
- No Refunds: Refunds, cancellations, or rain checks are not provided due to weather conditions or animal visibility. The zoo recommends planning ahead for the weather.
- Ticket Validity: New dated/time entry tickets are valid for a single visit.
Exploring Discount Opportunities
While specific ticket discounts for the Central Park Zoo are limited, several options are available for eligible individuals and groups.

Group ticket orders must be reserved and paid in full at least two weeks prior to the expected visit date. There are no refunds on deposits or full payment, but reservations may be rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice, subject to capacity restrictions. Any unused pre-paid tickets may be exchanged for OPEN EXCHANGE ADMISSION VOUCHERS.
WCS Membership
WCS does not honor reciprocal memberships from other zoos. However, by becoming a WCS member, you can enjoy free admission to all four of the New York Zoos and the Aquarium. Reservations for free daytime member tickets must be made online in advance. Members must present tickets, a valid member card, and a photo ID for park entry.
Enhancing Your Visit
Beyond admission and discounts, several factors can contribute to a more enjoyable experience at the Central Park Zoo.
Planning Your Visit
- Hours of Operation: The zoo opens every day at 10am. From April to October, the grounds close at 5pm Monday through Friday, and 5:30pm on weekends and holidays. From November to March, the grounds close at 4:30pm every day.
- Entry Time: You will be prompted to select an entry time window during the ticketing process, designating when you are able to arrive at the park. Once inside, you are welcome to stay as long as you would like.
- Exhibit Availability: While the zoo expects all exhibits and attractions to be open on a regular schedule, unforeseen circumstances such as weather, capacity, and animal-related issues can occur. Check the map posted on the Know Before You Go page for a complete list of exhibits.
Accessibility
The Central Park Zoo is committed to providing inclusive experiences for all audiences. The Accessibility webpage provides information and identifies the accommodations that are broadly available. Only working Service Animals are allowed, in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
