Tom Savini's Special Makeup Effects Program at Douglas Education Center

Tom Savini, otherwise known as the “Godfather of Gore,” is a well-known stuntman, special make-up effects artist, actor, and director. Getting back to his roots, Savini collaborated with Douglas Education Center to help launch our special make-up effects program in October 2000. The visionary makeup artist Tom Savini designed this comprehensive 2-year program at the Douglas training program in Monessen, Pennsylvania. The biggest distinguishing factor of this school is that you earn an associate’s degree. However, that means you will also have to take other non-related courses to earn the degree.

Throughout our program, students will take part in smaller-sized classrooms, making education more personalized and thorough. As part of the program students will also have an opportunity to design and create film quality effects in a simulated shop environment in the class Page To Screen!

The curriculum covers various special FX makeup topics, including dental appliances, digital sculpting, prop creation, prosthetic makeup, and airbrushing.
