Navigating Southeastern Oklahoma State University: A Guide to Student Resources
Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SE) offers a wide array of resources designed to support students throughout their academic journey. From technology assistance and library services to disability support and online learning tools, SE is committed to providing a comprehensive and accessible learning environment. This article will explore the various resources available to students, ensuring they can make the most of their university experience.
Technology Resources
Account Access and Password Management
Upon enrollment, students receive an SE account, which grants access to various campus resources, including lab computers. This account also serves as the login for lab computers on campus. If you encounter any difficulties signing in, you can initiate the password reset process by clicking the "Can't Access your Account?" link or by visiting PasswordReset.se.edu. On the subsequent page, select the "I forgot my password" option and click "Next" to proceed.
Canvas Support
Canvas is the learning management system used by SE. It is essential for students to ensure their computers meet the recommended configuration settings for optimal performance. While Canvas Support does not provide technical assistance for individual computer settings, it is the student's responsibility to use a computer that meets the necessary requirements.
Browser Compatibility
To check your browser's compatibility with Canvas and its plugins, refer to the provided link. JavaScript must be enabled to run Canvas, and it is recommended to have the latest version of Java installed (currently, Java 8 Update 381). Regularly clearing the memory cache for your browsers can also help prevent glitches.
Internet Connection
Instructure products, including Canvas, are designed to function effectively even in low bandwidth environments. However, a minimum Internet speed of 512kbps is recommended. Dial-up, satellite, and wireless Internet connections, as well as mobile devices, are not recommended for accessing and taking tests in Canvas. For test-taking, Firefox and Chrome are the most reliable browsers. You can download Firefox for free.

At times, you may need to share a screenshot with your instructor or technical support. There are several methods available for capturing your screen.
Microsoft 365 Mobile Apps
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote applications are available for download on both Android and Apple devices. Refer to the Microsoft 365 Mobile App page for more information.

Accommodation Process
It is essential to follow the university's established policies and procedures for accommodating students with disabilities. Accommodating a student outside of this process can create unnecessary complications. SOSU has exemplary policies in place, recognized by the Office of Civil Rights (OCR), which has used these policies as models for other universities.
Understanding and Respect
Many individuals with disabilities seek the opportunity to participate fully in all aspects of life. Faculty and staff should be mindful and respectful of students' needs while adhering to university policies.
